Hi folks
I'm moving at the end of the month and decided to make the move to Sympatico from Rogers. How good is the 7Mb service in Toronto? I'm getting lots of slowdowns with Rogers at certain times of the day, and had to live through the whole Xbox Live fiasco. As well, any idea what wireless router they supply? Can you do all of the setup on it, or do they lock it down to support it? I need wireless access from my laptop, and wired access from my desktop and xbox. I did a quick search of the threads and the Siemens came up. Thanks |

Go onto the CBC website and check out MarketPlace. They did a test of Rogers, Shaw, Telus and Bell. The premise was are u getting the speeds that are advertised for downloads. The absolute worst, dead last a mile behind everybody was Bell. By the way I am not a Bell user, I live in Manitoba. # 1 was Rogers, and # 2 was Shaw, then Telus, butt last by a country mile was Ma Bell. Interesting, thought u should know. They also gave a % of advertised download that was achieved in the test.

Thanks for the info. I read about that report and it seemed biased against Bell, using areas that were known not to have optimal service.
I'm a block from the CO, and have fibre to the building so I'm not too concerned about having slow service. When I lived in Cambridge, we were a pilot city for fibre with Rogers, so my internet was fantastic. I find living in apartment buildings in Toronto really kills the speed at times. Worst of all are between 4:00 and 6:00pm, when everyone's getting home and checking their email. I'm hoping to get away from that by going to Sympatico. That and the fact that I hate Rogers |

Was upgraded to the 7Mbps service in Montreal about a month ago and couldn't be happier. Getting download speeds of around 6.1 Mbps and 770kbps up.
They use a modem/router combined unit made by 2Wire. I have my desktop connected through the ethernet connection and support up to 4 other wireless connections. Hope this helps. |

Out of the frying pan and into the fire! As bad as Rogers can be, you're in for a whole new realm of suffering with Bell these days.

I am wondering why Symaptico, when there are other DSL providers out there (such as Teksavvy?) with both better service and better prices.

I agree with Sharky, you should at least consider Teksavvy or Caneris for DSL providers.

Yep, go to Teksavvy, no traffic management otherwise known as throttling of PTP transfers that Bell now loves to do.
