Default Do I need a DVI input on monitor to get High Def picture ?

HI,
I just purchased a new computer that has a Blue-ray and an HDDVD player in it. The monitor that came with the system was out of stock. So the sales guy recommended another that was supposed to be better.

While doing some research tonight I noticed that the monitor that comes with the system has VGA & DVI Digital with HDCP inputs. The one that I came home with says it has only an analog and digital input.

Do I need the DVI input to get a HD signal displayed on the screen ?

Thanks

CamG

It would be helpful if you told us which make/model monitor you have. Have you looked at the back of the monitor to see what inputs it has?

I'm not 100% certain on this but if the monitor is not HDCP compliant, you may have issues watching store bought hi def DVD's. There are ways around it with software like AnyDVD but I would suggest pushing for a HDCP compliant monitor. Also, make sure the video card is HDCP as well. AnyDVD will get around that as well.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.

Firs off I have to apologize. I checked again this morning and I noticed that the Samsung monitor does have DVI (HDCP), MagicTune, MagicBright2 listed under the “Other” categories.

I was doing a direct comparison and they had different inputs listed.

The monitor that was supposed to come with the system was an HP W2207

The monitor I bought is a Samsung 226BW

I also checked the video card on the computer and it has says compatible for watching HD movies so I think I should be ok...

Thanks again for your help.

For HD you need a graphics card and monitor with HDCP.
