We just moved into our new custom built house last Thursday. Bell was scheduled to come on site Friday and install / hookup our phone line.
Bell shows up and tells me he has to check a couple boxes on the street. About an hour later he knocks on the door and says "I have to send this to engineering as your to 1.5 Km from the box". The house next to me (about 80 ft to my left) has service. Anyone ever run into this issue before? For now we are using our cell phones but over time that will get expensive. Any feedback is appreciated. Cheers Rob. |

Well, POTS service can go up to 18,000 feet (5km or more).
If your neighbour only has a 1-line phone, you could splice into his 2nd pair for now. Why not try Primus? |

Does Primus service areas the same as Bell.....? This is a rural house.

Just called them - great price sbut they do not service my area....so I'm stuck waiting for Bell.
They are going to try to steal a pair from my neighbor's house but if they are using both pairs I may be out of luck for up to two months!!! That's crazy! |

Don't worry Rob, if it is a new house, your neighbors buried service wire should have 4 pairs, usually more than enough for 1 home, and a neighbor
Tell them its an emergency, that your neighbor has service, and ask if they could attempt to run a temporary line until they can fix your problem |

Leaf fan,
Thanks for the positive comments! I was under the impression it was only two pairs from the street. I'll let you know what happens. |

3 pair seems to be common now
Look at the wires.... Pair 1 is: White & Blue Pair 2 is: Red & Orange Pair 3 is: Black & Green |

Who is the cable provider in Barrie? Maybe you could shop that way if readily available in your area? Maybe this is inviting you to switch phone provider??

Update: Bell called to tell me a Tech has been scheduled for this Friday. I assume they were able to "steal" a pair from the neighbor
I'll update the progress on Friday... Cheers Rob. |

Good thing they install-provide more (pairs) than what is actually required! Now, let’s just hope they actually give you a connection ratter than disconnecting neighbour!!!

Now, if they only installed FIBRE to each new home, instead of these useless copper pairs, you could have ALL your services on the one medium.

Way too expensive to run fiber to everyones house
Until the cost drop, and people are willing to pay for a fiber service, it will still be old copper... I remember a few years ago, in Woodbridge/Vaughan, a friend told me the Futureways owned the infrastructure in his subdivision, and every home had fiber to the house |
