Less acronymms please - LOL.

HSM2 = High School Musical 2 ? *had to look that up. I Can't think of a single person that would buy that on BD.

Harry Potter on the other hand makes for an apples to apples comparison.

What in recent memory has also been released in both formats (a new release I mean) and what were the stats ??

I believe Oprah mentioned the show when it originally aired in the US, which was before the DVD release.

Where there more recent comments?

Yes. Her top 20 favorite things for 2007 aired recently and Planeat Earth was # 7 (see links in my previous post).

I think 300 was the last "big" dual format release.

BD outsold HD-DVD, but I don't remember the exact numbers and I'm too lazy to look them up.

As of Oct. 26 the numbers for 300 in hi-def were:

Blu-ray: 243,400
HD-DVD: 126,800

From a presentation at some trade show.

jvincent, it was about a 2:1 ratio but 300 was a combo disc. Whether the extra cash pushed the dual format supporters towards BD is anybodys guess.

If there are no supply problems then Harry Potter should be a pretty good comparison test. WB has had a lot of supply issues in the last few months but hopefully they would not mess up their (likely) biggest release of the year in hi-def.

Plus, 300 is a title that would appeal more to the PS3 demographic than to a stand-alone player demographic. That's why Planet Earth does so well on HD DVD.

True enough ("300").

Not sure if the PS3 crowd would be Potter fans or not.

I saw the Oprah show with my girlfriend and I don't remember her showing the HD-DVD set. Only the DVD set was mentioned if I remember.

I suggest anyone talking about demographics read the following study before making blanket statements on people that play or own video game consoles:

http://www.theesa.com/archives/files...cts%202006.pdf

PS3 owners are the VERY demographic people that create/manufacture want to sell their products to.

How can you generalize about over 2 Million people?

Anyway, I own a PS3 and am not a hard core gamer. My 8 year old seems to use it more than me but I do use it for BD a lot. I think I have 25 or so discs now and I did buy the entire HP set so we'll see how this weeks numbers pan out.

It's called stats.

Compare them. Do they overlap.

For example is the typical PS3 owner a 25 year old male with a University degree with a household income of 25k?

You can bucket people into a million categories. The more they overlap the higher the chance they will buy your product.

Is a Potter fan more likely to own a PS3 or 360? BD or HD DVD? Don't know. Don't have the data.

Based on the NDP numbers and the HD PG numbers there were about 480,000 HD-DVD "standalone" players out there at the end of November. The Blu-ray number is supposed to be at 320,000+ for the same time frame. It' not like there are multiple factors more HD-DVD "standalone" players out there like some people seem to keep implying.
