That's also the reason why I bought the PS3 as my BD player, there's no way Sony would ditch support of their console since it's so powerful and should handle any BD changes coming over the years.

The bonus material can be viewed, just not in PiP. Fox showed us Sunshine, one of the first 1.1 titles, and the content could be viewed alongside the movie, as well as on its own by selecting it from a menu.

Confirmed. I've just downloaded and installed it now (took no time at all via Wireless) on my 60GB PS3. There is now a folder in the Videos folder in the XMB titled "BD Data Utility". Also, I connected my USB External Hard Drive with many of my DivX AVI files and it read them all and played the ones I selected flawlessly. Of course, the USB External Drive was FAT32 formatted, and none of the DivX files were more than 2GB.
This is an excellent update.

Nice update! It looks like xvid is supported as well based on a couple of test files I tried.

Yep, I just tried an Xvid file off of a thumb drive I had and it played flawlessly.

Even the 1.5X FF with sound works on the files.

Sweeeeet!

EDIT:

Forgot to add... I couldn't get divx to stream over DLNA I'll have to research that tomorrow. I'm using Ushare (of course! ) on linux.

What's with the limitation of being only able to read Fat32 on the game consoles? It's pretty annoying to me that I can't use my NTFS formatted external drives (250GB). The 360 is the same, bah!

I suspect that's why they actually mentioned the 2GB limit (because only FAT32 is supported)? If 360 doesn't support NTFS, then do they have that same 2GB inherent limit as well? Anyone try streaming a larger than 2GB file to either console?

No the limitation of FAT32 is actually 4GB, and the 360 can do upto 4GB, no limit on file size for streaming though AFAIK.

uhm yeah. Even though I knew it was 4GB, I somehow had a brainfart.

Well, I don't know why it would be 2GB, but I'll see if I can do some streaming this evening.

DIVX/XVID (are they actually the same or are they different?) playback working perfect from my 500 GB external USB HDD.
Now if only *.mov extentions were supported!

What movies should I be looking for that utilize the 1.1 profile?

Really? What is your HDD formatted with, cause FAT32 doesn't support that size HDD. MOVs are supported on the 360 if I'm not mistaken.

I have a 500G LaCie that is Fat32 so I can use it on my Mac and PC's... Are you sure about that limitation?

EDIT:

The maximum disk size is approximately 8 terabytes when you take into account the following variables: The maximum possible number of clusters on a FAT32 volume is 268,435,445, and there is a maximum of 32 KB per cluster, along with the space required for the file allocation table (FAT).

This is also what I thought until I saw my external Western Digital USB drives (500GB and 250GB Passport) were both (pre-formatted to) FAT32.

That’s because the FAT32 volume size is capped by the 0xFFFFFFFF maximum sector count, and at 512 bytes per sector, this results in a theoretical maximum FAT32 volume size of 2TB. (While we’re on the topic of FAT32, the maximum size of a single file is 4GB, and the maximum number of files per directory is 65535.) ... Windows 2000 and higher will use a FAT32 drive larger than 32GB; they simply won’t create one.

You guys are getting confused between how Windows uses FAT32 and the actual limits of the FAT32 file system.
