I want to get this for my son but was wondering if there are any differences between formats that would make one preferred over the other.
My gut is to go with the PS3 but could also buy the Wii or PC version.

Just because of better graphics or something else?

Hugh, here is a quote from a review I read:
"Available on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PS2, the four versions have a number of differences. The Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions all include online play, while only the 360 and PS3 offer downloadable content. The PS2 game is offline only. All versions of the game can be bought with a wireless guitar, although the Wii guitar uses a Wii Remote as an interface to the console - which fits snugly inside the guitar shell. Visually the PS2 and Wii versions are similar to previous games in the series, while the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions look considerably better. Finally, the Xbox 360 game includes the expected Achievements, which could sway your purchase decision." My PS3 GH3 is currently taunting me from under the Xmas tree. I could have chosen any of the platforms but I wanted the PS3 version for the graphics/audio quality, free online play, and downloadable content. |

Sorry I spilled coffee on my MacbookPro just as I was writing that post. Great day so far...
Downloadable content is the huge factor for GH3 on the 360 or PS3 and since you have a PS3 I would choose it over the Wii version. |

I just read this morning that downloadable content is coming for the Wii, as well.
I would still buy the PS3 version. I have, in fact. I'm just saying if I had the option (which I don't).

I'd say the downloadable content is far too expensive to make it worth it at all. 7$ for 3 songs.
I believe that the Wii version also only worked in Mono at first, but I think they may be fixing that one, not positive.

I was going to bring up the sound aspect. I don't know that the Wii can't match the 360 amd the PS3 sound wise. I know very little about the Wii, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have an optical or SPDIF output.

The PS3 version has a USB receiver to plug into the PS3 doesn't it?
I've also heard that the PC version does have a few problems if you're running an older machine. IMO, PS3 is your best bet hugh... until you break down and buy a 360 one day. |

ugh, if you can find it for PS3 you will be lucky. I have been looking everywhere. I get the full range of responses from the sorries all the way up to the snicker and ARE you kidding???

There were 2 PS3 bundles at my local Rogers Video a couple of days ago. How ironic... After I get my mother to pick one up in Laval, QC. I get the shipment on Monday in Edmonton. The day after, I see those 2 boxes right there, in front of me, at Rogers Video. LOL

I read rumors about issues with Wii users only getting mono out of GHIII. I didn't follow it that closely as I picked it up for the PS3 instead.
I would never have bought it for myself but I thought it would be something nice for the wife and I. Since trying it out I have logged quite a few solo hours. Quite addictive. Salesguy at Ebgames told my wife though they haven't released a seperate wireless guitar for the PSIII yet and the PSII controller is only compatible with an adapter. Also that he heard that the people that went that route were having "issues". No idea to the validity of his comments but I have much more trust when a sales person talks my wife out of a sale rather than into one. |
