Default Pre outs> 2nd reciever

Is there anything wrong with hooking the Pre outs of one receiver to inputs on a second receiver for Bi-amping?Thanks.

Generally your pre-outs are connected to your main in. If you connect the pre-outs from one receiver to another usually you will only end up with sound from the receiver you are using as the amp; at least from the receivers that I have had

Thanks for the reply........An email from the manufacturer said that the Preouts and the main amps are active simultaneaously unless you turn them off in the setup. So I am wondering if a signal has been preamped twice if there is anything detrimental.

Yes - decrease in SQ due to running thru 2 less than perfect preamps.

If you really have the type of speaker that has increased SQ by biamping; use a amp connected to the preouts

Thanks. the speakers can be bi-amped and i have an older HK receiver that i would have tried it with to see if the difference made it worthwhile to by an amp.Not going to try if I can't get a good idea of sound though.

Yes, you can safely feed a second amp with the pre-out of another. Ideally your amp has discreet five or seven channel pre-outs. You would use the main L/R.

Here is a most excellent article about bi-amping.

If you don't read all of that be very sure to read the most common question about bi-amping. Particularly the last paragraph.

I agree with the position that without an active crossover, bi-amping is a waste of time.

JKL1960 Thanks for the reply.I actually read that or a similar article about a year ago.I was hoping to run the bass from my Cambridge Audio Azur 640R (which all signals go into first) and then use the HK to run the mid+hi by going from the pre-outs on the Azur to the CD in on the HK ,but that way the signal would be going through 2 preamps(Azur&HK).I only have the 2 recievers.I am having some Monitor Audio speakers delivered in a couple of days. They are bi-ampable so it was just a thought that it may work.
