Default Denon Receivers

Im just playing around with the denon AV988 (2808ci) and have it hooked up the the A2 HD DVD. The display on the receiver says 'multi chan in' and neither the DD or DTS signals are on. Ive played around with the A2's settings and no matter how i have it hooked up the 988's display says this. Hooked up via HDMI->receiver->tv via HDMI

On my old Marantz SR5300 the dts would light up on the display when hooked up to the A2. Anyone know have any idea whats going on????

You are letting the A2 decode the codecs and sent via HDMI as Multi channel PCM. You can set it to bitstream, and that will let the receiver see the actual codec and then display it. However, you will lose True HD and DD+. Leave it as PCM.

I believe the 2808 has TrueHD capability via HDMI (the 2308 does not). I assume you're using the HDMI for audio and nothing else - disconnect other audio to be sure - there is an option in the AVR to let the audio signal pass to the TV or be used by the AVR - one or the other, but not both.

I do have it set to bitstream and im still getting 'multi chan in' displayed. I will check again tonight but im sure thats how i have it set. I guress there is no differenct then if the receiver or dvd player decodes the codec's other than loosing DD+ and True HD??

I am also only using an HDMI cable for both video and audio...i thought that was the whole point? Do i need an additional cable?
