I was watching On Line with Rogers, and a caller "Mike" asked about when Rogers will start using the 3100HDs.

The answer was that Rogers has them but are in the process of testing them. There is some software changes, and they wanted to ensure things went smooth. It was suggested that they would be available in a couple of weeks.

"Mike" also asked why the quality of the Timeshift channels was so low. The answer was that these channels are coming from Cancom and that they were compressed more than the other channels. Reference was made to an earlier call where Michael Allen talked about the breakdown of images that they would receive via satelite vs images from fiber optical connections.

Another caller asked about PVRs. Rogers is working on getting one. No specifics on time were given.

I also saw the show. Lots of interesting tidbits of information. If indeed they are receiving the Timeshifting channels from Cancom then they are the same feeds as Starchoice essentially. Maybe Rogers Re-Encodes the channels for their cablesystem and this process causes some loss of PQ, although personally I find the Quality to be very good. I have no complaints.

I'm also glad to hear that WNYO 49 will soon be offered.

I've found that the Seattle channels were a little washed out. I've also noticed a couple of other channels that have a lot of pixelizing and picture freezing.

I too am looking forward to getting WYNO.

I only saw some Pixelation the first few days those channels were on. Other than that you shouldn't get any freezing up. I've had my 3100 for 2 years and the Digital has worked flawlessly. Maybe you need a service call if you continue to get freezing and pixelation.

I think they're snowing us a bit by blaming the problems on Cancom... We get most of our channels from Cancom and have no PQ issues. Mind you, we don't get those specific west coast channels, but it shouldn't make much difference.

I watched or, more accurately, listened to, Enterprise last night at 11pm on ch. 230 (IIRC). The commercials were perfectly fine, but as soon as the show started, the picture fell apart. I don't know who to blame on this one, but it had nothing to do with my local signal strength as far as I could determine.

The picture quality on most of the time-shift channels is sub-par. If they are indeed getting the feeds from Cancom, they should look close to the way they do on the Star Choice platform which is much better than what I see now.

Well it's not surprising to see Rogers up to their old B.S. Blame Cancom for signal quality. Well, go look at the PQ of Seattle channels on S.C. - same source but far different quality.

"We are working on PVR" - total BS They may be working on looking to buy PVR from manufacturer - but they ain't working on one. As anyone, who is familiar with Scientic Atlanta's delivery schedules knows, add a year to anything SA tells you abour new product intro.

maybe a dumb question but Is a PVR for Digital Cable any different from a PVR for satellite. I would have thought that they'd be pretty much the same.

Rogers is supposedly testing PVR in Ajax/Pickering with a group of customers who are also testing their Triple Play wired home thingie they're doing. I wish I was one of those customers
