After a good long stretch with very few, the Grammies last night were awful for me. Especially given that it's a sound-oriented program.

Similar thing for me, not many problems for what seems like a month or two then Monday night, while watching the 'Watson' machine on Jeopardy on CBCHD, there were several audio drop outs. Just like old times.

Default Sound dropouts

This is really goofy. We found, at about 5 pm today, that neither of our Shaw DCX-3400's was playing audio. Not SD broadcasts, not HD broadcasts and not PVR material recorded weeks ago.

Two separate boxes, each feeding a completely different LED set, each located in a different room.

Audio was fine at 4:30 today on TV set #1, when playing DVD material. TV set #2 "start-up" sound clip played normally.

Shaw agent re-booted both boxes and all is back to normal.

Shaw agent did not know if there had been a firmware or other change to the boxes today.

Default Experiencing sound drops as well as freezing

I have also been experiencing sound drops but they are then usually accompanied by the pvr freezing. It will then jump 5 min ahead. I have looked for other threads concerning this but can't find any. Can anyone here point me in the right direction within the forum?

Thanks in advance,

Calggurl

Calggurl,

Did you ever get this sorted out?

I'm experience similar audio dropouts with 5 min advances with my new Motorola DCX3400.

Thanks!

I have just purchased a new Samsung 55" LED - D6000 - and I am really noticing the video dropouts on the panel. They are lasting as long as 4 - 5 seconds. Of course when I rewind the PVR and replay they are not there. With the old panel in the same set up it seemed that the picture loss was less than a second. Is this a handshake issue between the components? I found it very annoying watching the Final Fours last night with my friend, and having the whole room look like a blackout! Is anyone seeing an increase again, or is this just something I am going to have to live with until I switch to another provider?

@Thunder if before with your old set the loss was less than a second and with your new set 4-5 it sounds like a handshake issue with your new set. Have you tried component instead of HDMI, or vice versa? Do you have another box you can hook up and see on that TV?

Is anyone noticing a lot of audio drops on TSN2 lately? I'm really noticing it watching the Tour de France daily... it's happening during the show and the commercials (so it's not an issue with the Vs feed). There were a couple during the TSN broadcast of F1 today as well.

I just upgraded to shaw hd a few days ago and have been suffering audio drop out a ton. After getting an unsuccessful workaround from shaw, I continued to search the net for solutions and have yet to find a true solution. I sent a message to my friend on messenger because his roommate works for shaw, and this was the response I got.

"its not shaw, its hdmi. ya i know, im the shaw guy, of course im gonna say that. hdmi has hdcp (high def copyright protection) that forces the tv and digital box to communicate with each other. hdmi is a flawed protocol. look itup haha. use componentcables"

so, regardless if that is legit or not, and it's simply hdmi's fault, and not the service providers fault 100%, if you wish to fix this completely, you should switch to component cables, which will give you the same quality. you can either buy them at the store, or I assume if shaw is willing to go through hoops to switch boxes, replace hdmi, or give credits, then they'd be willing to give you a set of component cables for free.

I hope this helps, and if they ever fix the hdmi problem, please let me know

Well, that's the easy answer. I was having lots of audio and video dropouts and put in a service call. The Shaw guy checked all the connections in the house and at the street and checked the signal levels, found the signal level low, installed an amplifier and the problem has been fixed. Maybe your issue is HDMI handshaking but maybe it is not. I'd have Shaw check it out.

Shaw used to supply a set of Component cables in the box with HD PVRs. Don't know if they do with the current models but it wouldn't hurt to ask if they can't make it work with HDMI.

Way back when, I set up two STBs and two TVs beside each other, one using HDMI, the other using Component cables. The sound drops happened at the same time on both connections, every time.

As previously mentioned, if this IS an HDMI issue, why did Shaw stop supplying the units with Component cables?

Default HDMI drop outs

I went through this issue for about 2 years and finally the last time I had a technician on site I went over the whole install with him it was after a cold spell and raining. I had him check the connections on the street. Found the issue water build up shorting out the signal in a junction box.We had previously had the cable to the house replaced and I noticed when we had snow all was OK but issues returned when it warmed up . Have them check all the out side cabling and connections. No problems since last year.

Ive noticed bad sound and video drop outs for the last few months. Yesterday i set a recording and the first 6 mins did not work. Today watching cnn hd both video and sound dropped for almost 5 mins. I kept switching channels back and forth and cnn hd was totally black.
