I had no problems with True Blood on HBOC-HD here in Vancouver.

I get drop outs still, not as bad as it used to be, was almost unbearable awhile back, they are getting fewer and further between but they still exist,
and they do bother me

I have used a DCT2500 for years with no sound dropout problems but now that I have borrowed my sisters Pace Aspen for an extended loan, I'm getting anywhere from a few to a couple dozen dropouts per hour.

They also occur on the playback of recordings I have made.

Assuming I exchange the box for another model, is there an HDPVR which has been found to be better or does this happen equally with all of them?

I'm guessing its your set up or the local connection rather than your box.

I have a variety of boxes and the sound drops seem to be common among all HD units, both PVR and non-PVR. So, changing your box may help but likely not as it is a system problem within Shaw's distribution equipment.

My old DCT boxes don't have the issues the HD ones do but they also don't allow me to watch an HD picture which is no consolation.

I've noticed droupouts again recently. It was pretty good for a while, but lately I've been getting them semi-frequently (especially on WGN HD, which for me can be BRUTAL at times). I would probably say it's been happening since the update, but that's likely a coincidence. I think image quality seems to have regressed recently too, but that's a discussion for another thread.

I've been getting more now as well. My guess is now that summer is over, more people are loading the system, maybe? I don't know. Last night's House seemed to have at least one for every commercial break.

This really should have been fixed by now, don't you think?

House was fine in Calgary. Actually, both pic and sound were excellent on 208 Fox east

New Christine, Criminal Minds, and L&O SVU were all riddled with dropouts tonight. We're coming up on the two year anniversay of the start of this thread. So why is it still an issue? Is it incompetence? Cheapness? Arrogance? Honestly, it's so far overdue it's rediculous.

House was fine for me in Nanaimo, BC. I don't think I've ever had a sound dropout on Shaw in the 4-5 years I've had digital cable.

Further to my last post http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...postcount=1257, I will follow that up by saying that my service remains pretty good.

I have experienced bad sound drops in the past, but since the tech came out and checked out my set up I've been very happy.

I had complained to Shaw several times over the last couple of year and I will be the first to admit that I was skeptical about whether or not the tech would be able to do anything. He found that my signal was way too hot and couldn't figure out why the previous tech put an amp on my line. He removed the amp and things have been very good since then.

I will qualify this by saying that we haven't watched nearly as much TV over this time span as we will in the coming winter months. But from what I've seen over the last few months it's way better (if not gone all together).

I will post back in a couple months and update.

I guess the moral of the story is to let Shaw come out and check it out if nothing else.

Dropouts on SpeedHD have been pretty bad these last few weeks. All other channels are fine.

I'm on Delta Cable which is owned by Eastlink. Delta is a suburb of Vancouver.
I have a basic SD feed to a TV in the kitchen and a cable modem for the Net.
Lots of complaints about sound drop outs on Delta Cable HD & SD. I use Bell TV
(satellite) as my main HDTV supplier. It also has drop outs, although not as bad
as the cable feed.

What I'm getting at is the fact these drop outs "may" originate with the source.
If drop outs are seen across so many different suppliers maybe it's from the
networks themselves?

I have Bell and Shaw PVR's and both suffer from varying degrees of audio dropouts at the same time and at different times--so it sometimes can be a network issue and not a provider issue. I have found that replaying the affected spot will sometimes bring the audio back. Do others experience the same thing with their PVR's?
