Maybe a coordinated call to tech support would help. If everyone who is experiencing issues was to call in on a specific day around a certain time - maybe they would take some notice.

If your 'blocks' are large and only occasional, they are likely due to signal degradation or transmission interruptions

...This is definately what is occuring. It happens a lot, along with audio drop outs.

I had my box replaced after some bad signal problems last week. So far its ok, I noticed most of my problems when playing back HD. Since the problems were always in the same spot the CSR thought it was signal related, rather than the playback software.

Since most of my live TV viewing is ok, I thought it was a problem with the recording process.

At any rate, its better, but time will tell. With almost everything in rerun territory I don't watch a lot these days.

After two visits from tech I am getting a new box Friday. And I hope it makes a difference. Did they bring you a brand new or refurbished receiver? And how can I tell if its refurbished or new?

Mine was refurbished, another 6412 P3, which is what I had before. This is my 2nd replacement, however its always been a 6412, I originally signed up with the satellite winback offer, so I can't complain.

That's what I am wondering. I guess the tech knows I have a refurbished unit?

Does anyone know what the latest PVR model number is and if its different then the refurbished unit I have now?

thanks

3416 P I is the 'latest and greatest' from Shaw. It has no analogue tuner but it has it's fair share of problems too. I am still very happy with the 6412PIII that I have (it is actually the 6th one, but who's counting, I've had this one for over a year now.)

Audio drops show up on all the boxes, PVR or no.

I'm certainly getting them on Movie Central HD. It's very frustrating to miss parts of sentences, especially when there are no closed captions.

Fox Buffalo didn't solve the audio dropouts issue. Hell's Kitchen last week was brutal (we mised more than 15 minutes because the channel was not even available for the first 15 minutes) and this weeks episode was full of audio dropouts.

They might as well put Fox Detroit back up.

Got a call from Shaw on Wed this week stating they had resolved the audio issues on the HD channels (she couldnt comment on the digital chanels) and asked if I was still having dropouts. I said yes I was. The sent a tech out yesterday. Unfortunately I was at work so my son handled it. Tech told my son it was likely signal issues since I have internet and phone with shaw. He put in a signal booster. Which is interesting since about a year ago a Tech removed the signal booster I had installed myself claiming that signal boosters will interfere with my internet. So I'm thinking that if having all services with Shaw means that those services are degraded then perhaps its time to diversify. Will be calling Shaw today. By the way....more audio dropouts on 210 last night. So much for resolving the problem

Be sure to ask for a credit on your account for at least the HD channels or even more, especially since they calle d you and said they have it 'resolved'. The booster you had installed was probably not compatible with the digital services and Shaw never boosts the cable before their internet modem. The usual process is to split the cable for Internet and/or phone and then boost the tv feed if needed. They are really trying to do away with boosters as they seem to be part of the problem with the Digital data stream.

Talked for a while to a Shaw tech who was working on the green box on the corner of our property. He was very familiar with the audio dropouts. He said everybody gets them whether they notice it or not. Some of the hightlights:

-They get numerous calls every day about the audio dropouts.
-They're especially bad in Vancouver and area.
-They know it's a problem with their headends.
-They still don't know how to fix it.
-They're using a "tweak and hope" method.
-Which is why some people get calls claiming the problem is resolved. They're using you as test guinea pigs to see if their tweaks have done anything.

I'm another user having the audio dropout problem. Been wondering whether it's worth my time to fight with the Shaw techs about this problem. Looks like for the most part it's still an "undocumented feature" with Shaw. Kinda sucks paying $700 + for a PVR and then $100 a month for services and you get crap!

Though a plus was when I phoned to complain about non HD channel quality (I was getting a full black box around regular cable channels) the guy took me into the service menu and set the Tv option to 720i and all my non HD channels now stretch nicely to all four corners.
