Hey guyz......
I got a really old receiver: PIONEER VSX-454. But I am okay with it and don't intend to replace it soon. My poor cheap subwoofer Yamaha SW-P201 (40 watt active) is blown and I surely need to replace it with another active one. I plan to buy SONY SA-W2500 PERFORMANCE LINE sub. There are two versions of this sub (from what I understand): a 100 watt one and a 150 watt one. Now the question is............is the 150 watt better than the 100 watt sub in my case (since the receiver isn't great, is it the case that the choice of subs WON'T MAKE A difference?). Now finally, do you think none on these subs are suited to my amp......if so please suggest something else. Thanks very much guyz. Count on your help p.s. (my blown subwoofer did work well with my amplifier, anyways) |

How powerful an amplifier/receiver/powered subwoofer you require is a function of how big the room is and how loud you like things!
One isn't necessarily better but one is likely better suited for the size of your room.

Hi Guyz
I would be really happy if you could just tell me which subwoofer to go with out of these two. Even a simple THIS or THAT would do (any more info will also do I will give the sub names and specs too: 1, SONY SA-W2500 150 watt amplified home theater subwoofer Frequency response: 28Hz-200Hz Mica-reinforced cellular woofer Motion feed back technology Power consumption (in operation): 70 watts Power consumption (in standby): less then .3 watts 8" Long-throw bass driver with bass reflex design Level control Woofer size: 9 13/16" (25cm) Speaker and line level inputs 2, YAMAHA YST-SW216 Advanced YST II (Yamaha Active Servo Technology II) Front-firing active subwoofer Linear Port for minimizing extraneous noise 10” long-stroke cone driver with magnetic shielding High 100W dynamic power 25–180Hz low frequency response Selectable high-cut filter Thanks so much. Okay, I would buy the Yamaha mostly because I don't care for Sony products, particularly their audio equipment. Yamaha has a good reputation in audio equipment.
So I vote Yamaha. |

Thank you :0
forgive my ignorance..........but doesn't it matter that the sony says "150 watts" and the yamaha says "100 watts dynamic" ?? They go for about the same price. Also, I have the PIONEER VSX 454 receiver. |

All depends on how the Wattage is measured. In the case of Sony the claims have often been exaggerated. See:
