I haven't see any mention in this forum of the Nokia N800 and the newly announced N810. The street price just dropped substantially on the N800 and I thought it might also interest others in this group since it runs a version of Linux (maemo). I have one on order now.
The good news is that the N800 is far from dead, and from what I hear it is not even going to be discontinued... the N810 is not intended as a replacement but rather as just another 8xx version. The upcoming N810 is essentially an N800 with a few options built in (might be worth the extra if you need them), and Nokia have already announced that the N800 will get a free upgrade to the new maemo OS2008 version when the N810 comes out, so they will be software-compatible with each other. Shop around for price since it still varies quite a bit. I searched for "Nokia N800" at the Canadian search site here: http://www.shopbot.ca

I love mine, but I'm willing to tinker without getting frustrated if things don't always go smoothly.
It's no iPod Touch, that's for sure... if you want to get the most from it be prepared to spend some time learning about various bits of open source software (not always as slick as commercial software). And you have to keep in mind it uses a low-power ARM processor so it doesn't run standard desktop versions of software.... most are customized and kinda pared down a bit. But if you want a new computer hobby, you can't have more fun for the dollar than getting your N800 set up just as you like it.
