Default Big problem with 6100

Bev came out today to install the 6100, I have the 9200 as well. When he plugged the 6100 it tripped the breaker. So I used an extension cord to another outlet so he could set up the receiver. When he left, the kids were pulling on the reciever as it was on the floor and my hdtv is not in yet so I decided to just take the cables of it. I was curious again to see if it would trip the breaker( I added a surge power bar and it did not trip) Now when I went to put the cable into the satellite it gave a little shock and it was quite hot. Me being stubborn then took wire and touched it to the satellite in. Sparks flying!! Fried the wire a bit and the back of the receiver. I called bev and they said it would be a week before I get another receiver and have it installed, I was dissapointed with that. I dont know what could be wrong, maybe the switch on the dish??? Or defective receiver(although I did pulg it in somewhere else and it didnt trip breaker) Any help would be great!!

Maybe the cabling has a short somewhere? When pulling and making the cables, maybe the shielding is making contact with the cable end which could short it. Is the multi switch grounded?

I have to think it is the coaxial cable as I plug in the receiver without the coaxial connected and it doesnt trip the breaker..

that sounds very dangerous. The current the receivers sends to lnb and switches is very low. You can see some small sparks at the switch end but I have never seen sparks at receiver end.

Is it grounded?
if so I think your cabling is screwed up somewhere.

Yes it can run from the same Dish. What did the installer do when he came out, just plug the 6100 into the Hydro, it blew a fuse and he left.?

Yes, he tripped breaker, so I plugged it into different outlet on another circuit and it worked but I had to use an extension cord. Then I had another guy come out to check things out and hooked everything up and went outside and was hooking it up to switch and he said there was blue arcing..So he said him and his manager will come back early next week with a circuit tester. I dont understand why everything else will work in these outlets but the receiver...

So I had an electrician come and the reason why the coaxial had a 120 V charge was due to improper grounding in the home circuitry. So there is no voltage in the coaxial now. Now if only the satellite would work, its just continues to search for transponders with no results!!

Seeing as you had 120V on the coax, I wouldn't be surprised if the tuner/lnb/switch is fried...

It was the switch obviously, after all of this I exchanged it for the 9242, I dont know what I was thinking when I went with the 6100, way better audio on the 9242 as its straight HDMI.

Actually, toslink (optical) is much better for an audio signal than HDMI. Just cross your fingers that your HDMI port doesn't keep losing audio signal sync randomly like it does on the 9200.
