Default DSR 505 - Component output issues, quality ?

Hi Folks,

New customer about a month ago, DSR 505 installed without issue. Noticed one day that my sat icon was red, but nothing had changed cabling/dish wise. Called *C and they asked me to change to chan 299. Not sure if they changed anything on their side (receiver update perhaps ?), but all seemed well after.

I have a set of component cables coming up through the wall from downstairs to feed my LCD tv (can't go DVI/HDMI because I'm already using the input that allows alternate RCA audio to be fed). For the last few days, things look okay on the receiver, but I haven't been receiving anything on the TV.. no audio, no video.. plugged a small DVD player into the composite jacks on the 505, got video and audio. Went upstairs and all is working again.

Anyone have any suggestions, or was this most likely a one time (extended) glitch ?

Quality:
Curious how much 'blocking' I should expect on channels like CBCHD. I get the same channel via OTA, and it looks pretty darned good. I notice the logo, as well as any text written via the *C feed seems to have blocking on/around it. Is this normal, due to compression ?

Greg.

Perhaps one time? Perhaps it'll happen again? See:

A reboot of the STB may have performed the same thing.

The macroblocking you see may be due to the compression done by *C, however, the compression is from about say 18 mbps (typical broadcast) to about 15 mbps (typical sat)

When you say "blocking" around text, you may actually mean edge enhancement, which could be caused by having different Sharpness settings between your OTH TV input and your component input from the 505.

I'll see if I can post a picture. Instead of the CBC HD logo being clear, there is some artifacts around it.
