Hi, I'm totally green at this so please bear with me if this sounds basic. The place I rent has 2 dsr305 units(one for the landlord, one for me). Mine recently started cutting in and out on certain channels, some really bad, some occasionally and some not at all. On some channels it's fine until you pull up the guide and then the channel in the background starts going in and out. The other box works fine, no problems. Has the box gone bad? Can I fix it somehow?

305's were known to have bad batches of tuners and the symptoms are much like what you describe. I went through 3 before getting one that lasted more than a year.

Ask them to replace it with a 317 if you can.

First switch it with the landlords then if it keeps acting up it will eliminate the line or LNB as the problem (or if the other one acts up you will know that it is the line or LNB). Also the landlord will have to call in to have it replaced. They will not want to hear that the 2nd one is in a rental unit.

After an HOUR on hold, the tech was quite helpful and decided to send us a replacement unit. Hopefully that will be the end of it.
