I've owned both and to me the 1.4 is by far worth it. The 1.8 version had ugly bokeh. Atleast to me. The 1.4 is better constructed. If you simply can't afford it then the 1.8 is a nice lens for the money. I had the same dilemna when it came to the 85 1.8 versus the 85 1.2L. I could not afford the 1.2 L version and the 85 1.8 was still a nice lens.

I'm thinking of getting the 50mm f/1.8. It's on sale this week at Best Buy for $99.

B&H has it for $75 but shipping is $30.

The price at BB is the best I have every seen for the F1.8 50mm. Everyone who doesn't have one should get one at that price.
I love the lens, amazing bokeh
Though I still think about upgrading to the F1.4 for something a little more substantial in my hands for manual focusing. Its the only thing I do not like about the F1.8 is the difficulty in manual focusing, I do have large hands though.

It's sold out at the two Ottawa locations. I bought it off the website and had it shipped.

Forget about the 50mm f/1.4. Get Sigma 30mm f/1.4 and you'll thank me later. 30mm works much better on crop body cameras, and if you still want 50mm, get the f/1.8 version without breaking the bank.

Default Available Light Shot

Shot at 100ISO f/1.8 at 1/30. This puppy really needs to be used with manual focus!

Another shot at 400 ISO, f/2.8 1/100
