It gets a 4.9?!? Wow, I didn't think the game would be good - but it's not easy to earn that bad of a score. It bugs me that IGN is nothing but positive comments and hype for any upcoming game, but at least their reviews of the finished product are honest.

There have been complaints about the controls in some of their previews, but I think the editors are just hopeful that companies will develop great, truly next-gen games.
I don't think there has been a game yet that - graphics aside - is far superior to the previous gen. 4.9 is a hammering, and the talk on lots of the forums at IGN is how IGN editors are completely biased against PS3 games. Considering that the majority of the revenue comes from advertising, I'd have to think they'd be pretty stupid to be that way. Besides, the PS2 was strongly lauded at that site.

Gamespot gave it a 4.5 - bad camera/controls being one of the main issues followed by shallow gameplay. Not a good sign for a gaming system when an exclusive gets hammered. Heavenly Swords is now the New Hope...

The NHL series has taken major steps on NG. Unfortunately, the PC version is still on the old engine. |

Playstation magazine gave it a 5/10. Not even the home team endorses it.

A buddy of mine in the US bought it... graphics wise he says it has a pretty significant WOW factor. Like Gears of War WOW.
He also said the game requires you to learn how to use the sixaxix motion properly to play the game... that could be turning people of. Apparently there's not a lot of significant challenges also. According to him, you and the dragon are already the most powerful unit in the game and nothing can stand up to you. IMO it sound like it might be at least worth a rent, but I won't be wasting my $70 plus tax on it. |

I read all the reviews but bought it anyways. I've played through the first four levels and it is pretty cool. The controls aren't broken as far as I can tell. You really do have to focus on what you are doing. I found myself trying to steer the dragon with the analog stick, which only rotates the camera, then overcompensating with the sixaxis controls. So far I have no regrets about the purchase. Oh yeah you can also remote play LAIR through the PSP!

I gotta tell you that the news of Lair's demise is greatly exaggerated. Definitely the controls take a great deal of getting used to but by no means are they as bad as is described in either review. Maybe those guys just forgot how to learn.
Graphics are definitely visually stunning and the animation is pretty smooth for the most part. I do see the odd framerate drop but I it's something expected with a 1st gen game of this level and not something that ruins the game by any stretch. So far, I have not regretted my purchase. Cal |

Sony needs to give us a Lair demo asap, then the whole "is control that bad?" discussion would be put to an end, as everyone would be able to make up their own mind ...
and well, it'd let us see how great the graphics are without purchasing it |

I just finished playing a couple more levels tonight. I got through the bridge level that the IGN reviewer got sooo frustrated with. Did it on my first try without dying once. Maybe the reviewer has a nervous twitch or something....

I guess the people who are too used to playing on the Wii just can't wrap their heads around the SIXAXIS controls. I really think people should try the game and judge for themselves before slamming it.

Yeah imagine that, Nintendo designed an easy to use interface.
