Fox Home Entertainment has announced the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World', due on store shelves October 2nd. The film will come on a BD-50 featuring 1080p AVC video and 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio. Extras include two trivia tracks, a pop-up BD-J map (which will allow you to locate the HMS Surprise throughout the film), personal scene selection, search content option, and the theatrical trailer.

I'm not sure HD can make this film any better... it was such a letdown IMO.

I have the normal DVD. I liked the movie and I think it will look good in HD.

I'll pre-order for sure.

This is one of the titles I have anxiously been waiting for. Good to see the DTS-HD-MA is included.

Let down? Did you read the book first?

I liked this movie a lot, and grew to love it more after I visited the Galapagos. I've been waiting for this to be released in HD!

Don't sweat it, James. Fox made us wait 60 years for a decent print and commentary for Laura.

Apparently there is a legit reason for the delay this time - an authoring problem. They discovered some problem with the disc's performance in about 10% of Blu-Ray players. No I don't have a link for this. I read it in another forum.
