Sometimes, the DCTwill not go past the zero prom (0 on the front) because of the tuned frequency. In Peterborough it needs to be 72.75Mhz... other cities vary. On the 1800 this can be changed by: With the box on, hit power, select (ok)... go to #2, then hit Menu. Cycle through the freq, with the arrows.. hit select (ok) and then power to jump to the new freq. Then works. I cannot help with how to do this on a 2000, 2500, or 6xxx series DCT.. Anybody? This is usually the issue with boxes coming from Comcast.

Hope any of this help someone..

Unhappy Fix for Verizon QIP 6200 Cable Box

just wondering if anyone has a fix for QIP 6200 cable box so it can be used on Cogeco cable. I've tried the factory reboot but it can't find the proper frequency.
Thanks

See post 11 of this thread and the link there. I don't believe these will work.

As 57 noted, those aren't going to work on Cogeco. The box you have is probably stolen from Verizon and useless to you.

Default Third Party DCT 6200 On Cogeco

He are getting our Grandma a new TV and cable box for christmas. Just recieved a DCT 6200 from eBay. At our house(we have cogeco also) I did the firmware DL and all seems to have went well. However there is no guide or menu now on the box(as well as no channels, but that is to be expected). Mind you we have yet to call Cogeco to get it activated(dont want to have to pay twice for setting up a third party reciever). Just wondering if this was normal until cogeco sets it up from there end.

Thanks

Cogeco would have to authorize it from their end, however, I doubt they will do that. Most cable company's will not authorize boxes from other systems since they are often stolen and then sold on eBay.

Search this forum as other threads have discussed this.

Good luck having it activated in their system... Rule is that they should not do it...

Has something changed in the last year? We have 4 ebay boxes activated and running, last one was about a year ago w/ no problems.

Rules might have been enforced more seriously or you were VERY lucky to get them activated OR they were from previous Cogeco customers ?

Assuming it's a STB that Cogeco can use, they will still activate them. I did an optimization only a week ago for a customer who had one activated about 2 weeks ago. The Cogeco tech even came to the home to ensure everything was fine...

Threads merged.

I had someone on Cogeco in Quebec tell me this today, "just called cogeco in quebec and, from now on, they told me they do NOT accept a receiver that has not initially been registered by cogeco".

Sounds almost exactly like what Shaw did last March. Has anyone else heard this?

This procedure has been in place for quite a while in Quebec... In Ontario too IIRC, but there might be a few that got thru anyways; just don't try your luck if you don't wanna be disappointed

Question Cogeco - can I use my own motorola dct6416?

I've got 2 Motorolla dct6412 and use them all the time.
However, I really get annoyed by the fact that I pay Cogeco $17 per unit and can only record 20 hr of HD. I'd love to buy one from Cogeco, but $499
(x2!!) is absolutely ridiculous.

I've seen several on eBay that are even advertised as 'MOTOROLA HD DCT6416 PVR DVR COGECO DCT 6416' for half the price.

My question is... can I use ANY MOTOROLA DCT6416? I assume I would still have to register it with Cogeco?
Is there any catch here?? or should I just stick with the $17/month (x2)?

Thanks!

FGJ

Maybe wait for the supported external drive to arrive before buying anything ? As it prolly won't be for a 6416

To answer your other question : yes you'd have to register it at Cogeco for it to work.
