Question No Dual Tuner PVR?

Went to the Bell Store in my local mall wanting to switch from Cogeco to BEV.
The Sales Rep. told me that I could not rent a dual tuner pvr unless I had an HD tv and subscribed to the HD Extra Programming Package that includes the HD PVR plus receiver. (all in one package)
She indicated that the connections are different and that I would not be able to connect my SD set even though I have component and composite connections. Does this mean that BEV does not offer a rental program for a dual tuner pvr for SD tvs? This does not make any sense!
I want to keep my SD tv for a little while longer so I guess that I will have to stay with Cogeco and their dual tuner hd pvr rental program.

Well the Store is correct in saying that there is no Rental Dual Tuner SD PVR available from Express Vu at this time, there was a 5200 available for a while but it was discontinued.

AS for the 9200 not being compatible with an SD TV, that is incorrect. TV1 Output if set to 480i will work on SD TV's, no problem, then of course TV2 is SD anyway.

The All-In-One program with a Rental 9200 is aimed at people who actually want to take HD programming anyway.

I believe, and I am not sure about this but I believe it would work, is to Rent a 4100 under the All-In-One package on the Digital Essentials Package and then add a 9200 to the order. You would still be paying $20 per month extra for the 9200 but I do not see anywhere that says you MUST take HD programming......

As a New Customer, installation should be free.

you can also use the build you own programming package, go download a copy of it from the bell site and print it out, pick the programming you want from the build your own portion of the brochure and choose your receiver (you can have ANY receiver you want that is listed) take this to the store just incase they try to tell you again that you must have an HD package to rent the 9200. Prove the store wrong and educate the sales rep on the product all at the same time

I guess the install has to do with it. You would not be paying anything against the other satellite. Rentals they install. They would amortise the cost of install with HD ,Varity3 or Salt & Pepper
If you had to pay for install it would be cheaper to take HDTV . If your future is HDTV.

okay so you can rent the 9200 with any package.
the build your own would be the best way to go.
the install will be included if you agree to a 2 year term

nem, who doesn't like sales reps who give incorrect information

you might want to wait to when and if you make a move to hd. new customers get the best deals and expressvub will probably have a new hd pvr by then. Don't forget like nemnoch said your locked in for 24 months. looks to me you get a deal on it when buy a tv

I didn't think what they were telling me was correct, but what do I know, I have been a cable subscriber for 20 years.
Thank You everyone.

You can actually watch both tuners on a standard TV with the 9200--you just have to set it up to the mode for 1 TV.

I actually own all 3 of the Dual Tuners released by Express Vu, the 3200 is very problematic, has been since day one, although latest Firmware has stabilized it a lot, the 5200 is superb, this was my main receiver for a year, still gets used and the 9200 is just amazing, slight issues aside. If you get a 9200 now on a 2 year term and and HD TV in that same time period you will not be disappointed.

Just for the record, the 5200, when it was available to Renters was the exact same price as the 9200, we used to always offer Customers the option of the 9200 and set it up as 480i.

3200 an 5200 are no longer offered for new rentals

Clients that are at the time renting the 3200-5200 unit could keep them for as long as they wish, but we will not sign a new client with that unit

It is always possible to rent a 9200 and you don't need to have a package including the HD, you could go with a built your own

If you want a 9200 I recommend that you rent instead of purchase...we now offer the possibility to "upgrade" the receiver during the course of the contract with no penalty
