Default MuchMoreRetro & MuchLOUD to be Removed in Sept.

Anyone know why this channel (572) is being removed the week of Sept. 1? It just happens to be the only music channel I watch.

It's the only music channel I also watch and one of the reasons I switched to Expressvu from Starchoice. Is the channel going off the air or is Bell just removing it from its programming line up?

*C removed PunchMuch in June due to low viewer ship, so possibly for the same reason.
Maybe CTVgm is charging more or possibly shutting down. Maybe to make room for HD...

I don't have an HDTV. How about you send me a few $1000 EMT's so I can go buy one.

They're removing these and keeping the abominable PunchMuch? That's now three channels gone from the Variety 3 pack this year.

Could this have anything to do with the CHUM acquisition and CRTC regulations on the ratio of owned channels a provider carries?

I'm pretty sure the reason they are being dropped is because they won't be broadcast anymore. It's hardly Bell's fault. I'm looking for a link, but I'm pretty sure I read it is because of the recent change of ownership of the parent company of those channels.

Go to the Much More retro web site and you won't see Bell Express Vu in TV providers...Same thing on Much Loud web site.

Maybe Bell don't renew the contract with these 2 channels.

There was an issue with the number of CTVgm channels BEV would have after the acquisition, but the CRTC gave them longer than this to sort it out. Maybe Teacher's wants them in compliance?
Something is up. *c drops Punch now BEV drops Retro and Loud...

Nothing is up. The channels are being dropped so that Bell can be in compliance with the 5:1 rule regarding category 2 digital channels. They probably have enough english and ethnic catigory 2 digital channels to keep the remaining channels.

So it is a ratio thing. Are there any category 2 channels that BEV could add to comply with the ratio?

These are the CHUM category 2 channels:
  • Court TV
  • Drive-in Classics
  • MuchLoud
  • MuchMoreRetro
  • MuchVibe
  • PunchMuch
  • TV Land
It figures they would drop my two favourites from that list.

Remember that those are now CTVgm channels. They could actually drop ESPN Classic, Discovery HD, Animal Planet, or Discovery Civilization, but I guess they choose the lowest rated two, i.e. lowest sub numbers.

They probably narrowed it down to Nimiq 2 channels since they would affect fewer subscribers. I'm still not happy.
