I was looking at the $850-ish Denon DHT-487XP HTIB at my local A&B Sound the other day, and comparing it to the $500 Yamaha YHT-280.
Now that I've looked at the alternative of buying a set of speakers, a receiver, a sub and all the wiring, I've decided that spending $800-900 on a HTIB isn't such a bad idea. Anyways, am I paying extra with the Denon for the brand name, like I would be with H/K or Bose stuff? Or am I really getting $350 more of home theatre with the Denon setup? If anyone has used either of these systems, or have heard anything about their performance, how are they for the money? And just so you know, I don't need HDMI switching, or really video switching of any kind, as my Toshiba 56HMX96 has 10 inputs Any input would be great!! |

Alright, forget it... I bought the Denon today. I got a smokin deal on it, along with a pair of Plateau W-series speaker stands... very classy looking setup, we'll see how it sounds.
One question... The sub is down-firing... Since my floor is carpeted, should I put it on a plank of some kind so all the sound doesn't get absorbed by the carpeting? Or will it be just fine? |
