If your using the HDMI out on an 8300HD, are the other outputs still active...audio and video?

Audio definitely, there are some variations dependent on the settings.
SD Video will work but they, (SA) will not guarantee component at the same time.

Thanks Mole, I wanted a second route from the STB to my AVR so I could treat the music channels differently at the AVR. The RCA jacks would be just fine. I'll give it a try...

With the previous firmware, I believe you needed to keep the TV on to keep the handshake between the STB and the TV live (and thereby listen to music). I believe this was fixed with the January firmware, so you should be OK.
