Can anyone tell me why I can get CBC HD on my Hauppage 950Q but on my Samsung TV I can't?
The channel is 64.305. Come to think of it there are a few I can get on my hauppage but not on my TV. |

TV's generally don't display mpeg-4 video, while your tuner card may. My PCTV card displays mpeg-4.
Here's a clear QAM list for Feb, 2012 for Eastlink, in Dartmouth NS: Code:

Hello I'm having some issues with getting clear qam channels. On my 26 inch Samsung TV it finds a bunch of channels when it does a scan, but I only get sound, there is no picture. The TV I believe I bought it in 2006.
I tired the same on a new Toshiba TV and it detects the same channels, expect the 480i ones work fine, the 1080i one, same as my Samsung no picture. I just rebuilt my HTPC which has the WinTV HVR 1250 in it, and it's the same detects lots of clear qam channels but only the 480i ones have picture, the others is audio only. Did a search on google but can't find anything talking about my problem. Hoping someone can help me out. |

I would have to say that from the way it sounds, the ones with no picture are being sent in MPEG4 format. Most QAM tuners in TVs and PC-TV tuner cards can't display mpeg4 channels, well not the video portion anyways.
Every system has a different level of MPEG4 channels. |

Ok that is what I was thinking just couldn't find anything talking about the WinTV HVR 1250 not being about to work with mpeg4. So now I'm wondering if a tuner for the boxee box would even really work then.

My PCTV can display mpeg4, and yes that's likely the reason.
Same thing with an SD digital cable box, it will play the sound but no picture on HD channels, for a similar reason (it doesn't handle HD mpeg2). You can still record the channel as a transport stream and play it back later, just can't watch it live. Also try vlc which can display live mpeg4 from clearqam. Good luck figuring out how to change channels with it though. The frequencies I listed should help you out. The modulation is QAM256. |

VLC can tune with the TV tuner? Cool, I'll have to look into that. I have an HVR-1800. I'll have to break down and list a clear QAM scan for our system soon.

You can try Next PVR
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showthread.p...8th-January%29 You can try to get VLC working http://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=61680 You need to know this for one of the channels: Virtual channel 116.3 Physical channel 116 subchannel 3 Freq 747MHz SID 3 NID 0 TID 0 PMT PID 4095 PCR PID 256 Those last two numbers are often 2752 etc. type numbers. I couldn't get vlc to work though |

Cool ill try this, cause I couldn't find any mentions of what type of signal encoding the tuner could read, just that it can record in mpeg2.

This is what is available in clear QAM in Timmins. Long list. Some of these have been in the clear since the digital map started in December 2010.

My listing is in fact missing a few channels, for some reason my computer scan didn't pick them up. I also get silver screen and a few more.

I should have mentioned in my post from yesterday that was using my HVR-1800 on my PC to get that list. When I use the QAM tuner on the TV, I get the music channels too.

I ran a QAM scan this morning and a lot of channels have moved here in Timmins. Channels are now sitting up to channel 135 (861 Mhz) and a 10 channel gap in the 70s to 80s. They are using channel 98 and 99 (108 to 120 Mhz) now too for a mix of SD and HD it looks like. The number of total channels found is up by maybe one or two, possibly OnDemand streams are included.
Anyways, showing on 126.5610 in clear QAM is a channel called EuroNews. I would think it is HD (I use that term loosely) because the picture is 16:9 and not stretched but it is definitely not HD quality. This is strange because I don't see this anywhere on our guide yet. Possible new channel, probably for the World News pack? EDIT: Thanks 57...sorry about that. Last edited by 57; 2012-04-20 at 02:50 PM. Reason: Moved to existing thread |
