Here eastlink use STD for their frequencies.
I've never noticed whether things are in stereo or not, just upgraded from a mono to a stereo tv at Christmas... Mark |

Most TVs have some idicator if the signal is Mono Stereo or Dolby Digital(in my case with my Samsung 40a530). And it always shows MONO until I hit the in-between channels then its Dolby Digital.
Also on another note, it seems that Easlink is playing some sort of game with these inbetweens I now get Animal Planet on the inbetween but they removed some others. They really don't want to keep customers. |

@magnet:Thank you for clearing that up!
It pisses me off when we Don't get TMN when its on Free Preview, and we didn't get Bold or Documentary previews when they were on the go. Good ol Eastlink. |

Eastlink has encrypted almost all of the digital channels from 70-95 here in Oxford. Not sure when it happened, sometime in the last 6 months I think. I only noticed last night.
Eastlink has every right and reason to encrypt all of their channels. Otherwise any Joe with a QAM tuner in their computer or fancy TV could get channels that they are not paying for. I was hoping to use my QAM tuner to increase recording quality on channels that I DO pay for, but we really need something like cablecard for that... Mark |

Ummm...the "in between channels" aren't part of the non digital cable packages. The only reason your TV gets them is because the TV has a QAM tuner built in and the digital channel has been left un-encrypted. Consider it a bonus that you do get them without having to rent/buy a digital box
TSN Alternate ended transmission and stopped using the channel as of July 29th.

The Super Channel HD1 is on either 685 or 93-5 (93.5) at 1080i. Depending on your HD TV. So clear. As well as the other movie channels and the Discovery Channel for kids until Aug 19 at 480i.

I currently have a Viewsonic N3251w LCD HDTV (which i just read has OTA apparently not even knowing what that is). I got my television, and like always I screw in the cable outlet to see if I am getting any sort of channels or what not. (Its a habit I picked up in university to see if I was getting free cable or not). I do a 'channel scan' and I pick up numerous channels that some are described as 'analog' and the others are 'digital.' The analog ones are your normal channels, the digital ones, well i pick up NUMEROUS music channels (ie. its only music) and the channels on my television are numbered for example 70-1 95-2 etc... always a 'dash'. I'd pick up TLC, CNN,Discovery etc...l, to the local channels. Now recently this all stopped, abruptly(well those few channels I watched did at least) as well, no more channels, and I had that for 6 months I figured. I don't watch a lot of tv, so I don't know if the channels were dropping off slowly, or if it was just that one day they all stopped. Now recently I have more channels again, but not the same as before, its just 4 Superchannel stations, that I have no idea how I have or what not. Just wondering WHAT IS GOING ON?
Is this what someone described as "signal leakage"? Am I picking something up from somewhere. Are there actual channels out there that I can actually recieve, and get hooked up to somehow 'free' (as I am reading more and more about the OTA, just wondering what kind of equipment etc... what kind of channels there are also (in the Halifax area, Nova Scotia). Just looking for some answers Cheers To hlep out I might answer some of stampeders questions that he/she asked someone else. Are you subscribed to cable tv: No Do you live in a detached house or in an apartment building/duplex/shared dwelling? Yes I live on the main floor of a house, with one person in the basement and the other on the top floor. if you are not a cable tv subscriber, is someone else in your home/building subscribed to cable tv? There could be. Even if you are not a subscriber, is a cable tv line hooked up to your tv? Yes, I don't know if I could recieve the channels without the television being hooked up as a matter of fact. do you have an antenna hooked up to your tv? If yes, is it an indoor or an outdoor antenna? No I do not. |

dZilla, I've moved your post here because you are getting Clear QAM and not OTA. Please read through this thread for an explanation to what you've been seeing. (first link in post 5)

I guess that is what happened is Eastlink decided to start scramblign channels and I must've been piggybacking off a neighbour or something. But I am getting the superchannel HD channels which isn't that bad................... |

Superchannel HD is on Free Preview for August. It'll likely be encrypted after that.

Hi All
Just new to the HD system, I have noticed that I can get most of the HD channels using just the QAM Tuner in my LG TV. Just wondering do the qam channels, (this is just an example, might not be the right channel) say 96-4 was TSN, does it stay that way all the time or do they switch around. I'm tryiing to decide if I should add an HD capable tuner to my HTPC to record HD shows. Cheers Mike H

All of Eastlinks HD channels are encrypted ota so what your seeing is just some of the SD channels available ota and not the HD channels. You will need to subscribe to an Eastlink digital cable package then they can either supply you with a regular HD STB @$9.95/mth rental or a HD PVR for $14.95/month rental which can record. Thats the only way your going to be able to view the HD channels I'm afraid

Hey there,
Right now I use Eastlinks HD STB to get my channels on the Plasma, so of course there is no coax cable going into my TV, would I need a splitter and if so what kind and where could i get a good one (something tells me that the Dollar Store ones just won't cut it). Or is there a wat to run it from the Cable box directly. I read something about RF bypass in the STB manual on the Eatlink site, but it says something about only when the SB is off and that it is not available on all models. It would be nice to get the QAM channels too, because some of them aren't in my subscription package with Eastlink. Thanking you in advance, Dave |
