Default Japan to build 2001' TV antenna

To be built completed in about 4 years, a 2001' TV antenna is being built in Tokyo.
In case you are wondering at 2001', it will be ~ 186' taller than the CN Tower, which although is not the tallest tv antenna, is currently the tallest freestanding structure in the world.

Tokyo to construct one of the world’s largest TV antenna towers
A 2001ft-tall concrete and steel tower in the Sumida River region of Tokyo is set to become one of the world’s tallest freestanding antennas when construction is completed in 2011.

The structure’s purpose is to host antennas for all of Tokyo’s digital radio and television signals, plus a mobile television network.

Reports said it’s no coincidence that the new structure resembles the old 1092ft-high Tokyo Tower, which stood as a symbol of Japan’s postwar economic independence for 50 years.
Interesting that they are planning for a mobile television network.

Here are artist's renditions of the completed tower.

Long live Digital OTA!

Maybe, but they will be too late to be the tallest free standing structure. The Burj Dubai is projected to be completed in 2009 and at ~643.3+ m (2,111 ft) to the roof top and ~818 m (2,684 ft) to the top of the antenna it will take the titles of tallest building (by all definitions) and free standing structure. It will even be taller than the KVLY-TV mast which is the largest guyed mast.

All I can say is thank God Mel Lastman is no longer Mayor of Toronto or we would be devoting all of our energy to extending the CN tower to be#1 again.

Are you Torontonians suffering from "Tower Envy" yet?

I wonder if we bought all these penile growing patches beings sent in our emails lately, and that we "patched" the CN tower, would it make it the tallest once again?

Seriously though, I'd be afraid to build something that tall in a country that has lots of windy storms or tremors...scary.

Burj Dubai is already bigger than the CN tower I believe, and it's not even finished.
