I've had mine for a few days now; only took 5 days from the time I ordered it.
I wanted an entry level Plasma for our family room and thought it was worth trying it out since returns to Costco are hassle free. Main use will be watching satellite feed and the odd movie. We do most of out movie watching on a Mitsubishi HC3000 projector in the basement. Initial Impressions The build quality is quite nice and was a breeze to mount on the wall. The picture quality is very good especially considering the price. I think it's better than the Akai available in store at Costco. The audio is thin but expected from a TV at this price point. Not a problem since I don't intend on using the audio from the TV. Zoom control would be nice but you can't have it all at this price. I should state that I'm a 2 channel audio guy who's not overly fussy about video so my satisfaction with this TV may not meet with the standards of videophiles. I would like to give kudos to this site. It's been an excellent resource. |

Maxent panels are made by Panasonic, this is right from the rep's mouth from panasonic. I have installed a few for clients and tell them its same performance as panasonic and also did a Burn in test and it passed !

For the $900 I paid at Costco, this thing kicks the a$$ of the 37" Viewsonic and Daytek LCD flat-panels that I had tried before.
Much better picture, much better control/adjustments; PIP is very limited, but I rarely use it, so who cares. Big thumbs up from here! |

With my HD input now im loving this TV. Im very very pleased i safed the 500-900$++ by gettin this unit...
Only negatives so far: -1 HDMI input (ill get a switcher soon) -once your wall mounted its hard to get at connections but ill go out on a limb and assume that everyone is in the same boat here? -the factory vivid, standard and cinema settings are pretty lame, I rarely use any but if i had to pick one std woud be the one, my USER settings are modified versions of cinima to make it brighter. |

See http://www.plasma.com/classroom/whomakesplasma.htm
"Maxent is Sampo. There seems to be a rumor spreading around that maxents are actually Panasonic panels. This seems extremely unlikely as Panasonic cannot keep up with there own requirement. We suspect that maxents are actually LG glass with their own electronics." |

If you think THAT'S a good deal, you should have seen it when they had (in store) the 50" Maxent plasma for $1299. Now THAT was a smokin' deal!

Its $1099 now. I wish more manufacturers produced monitors like Maxent rather than TVs. I don't need the extra expense/heat/power of tuners/speakers and analog inputs. I am waiting for 1080p 50"+ panels to fall below $2K before I move the LG 42" to the bedroom.

im still very pleased with my 42" I now have my PS3 hooked up and my HD BEV... For the 900$ i paid with mount im very happy still...
I do check out the market from time to time, i have yet to see any 42" in the 900$ range. So im lucky i got in when i did.. I agree with lgplasma, i dont need the tuner or speakers ect.... Even the most casual viewer such as me has some sort of suround sound and is using a digital box of some sort. I dont think to many 42"++ units get hooked up to coax cable these days. The simplistiyt of it being a monitor only(with speakers) helps get the thing setup easier i think. |
