Default Sony righting a wrong - The Fifth Element Exchange Program

Quote:
Right now, Sony is taking down your name, mailing address, and phone number and will contact you closer to the release of the remastered version on how to exchange your disc.
Gotta give credit where credit is due.

I love the fact that Sony is doing this as TFE is one of my favourite movies. It was the first movie I bought after getting the PS3.

However, I do not believe that Sony is doing it because it is the right thing to do. I bet we will find out later that there is something on the disc that shouldn't be (like an open AACS key) or maybe this is going to be the first disc with the extra Blu-Ray copy protection and we will be beta testing it.

Does anyone know if this will happen in Canada? I would hate to get my hopes up for nothing.

Just got my reply email from Sony with information as previously stated to return only the BD. Cool and nice going, good news for TFE fans like me.

Sending my copy in today.
Sony's reply indicated replacements would be sent UPS ground after July 17th.
Whatever their reason, I am a happy customer.
And that's the bottom line.

Default Looks like it's true in both exchange and quality

Sony is definitely to be commended -- not only for returning to the scene of their past crimes and righting old wrongs, but also for providing this remaster absolutely free to those who purchased the old version.

Has anybody from Canada received their replacement yet?
Sent mine back on June 22nd, but haven't received anything to date.

So does this mean Sony is no longer blaming Samsung and the G1 BD player

Just an update, I sent the Sony Consumer Affairs Team an email yesterday asking about the status of my replacement disc.
They replied this morning with the following:

Quote:
We have shipped your replacement disk via the US Postal Service and it should be arriving within the next week. Thank you for your email and for your continued support of Sony products.
Regards,
Sony Consumer Affairs Team
Cool! Can't wait.

Another update - it came in the mail today!
Weird, but I'm happy.

Thanks for the update - I just sent mine in for exchange. Let us know what you think of the PQ improvement once you've had a chance to watch it.

The new version is getting good reviews. The original received average reviews at best.

I never really thought the original one was that bad, but this one is looking pretty fine.
Very clear and crisp.
Everything is exactly the same except for the PQ and the TreuHD dolby soundtrack.

Are you able to do a side-by-side comparison? Or did you have to turn in the poorly mastered original?

Yes, I had to turn in the original.
There are some side-by-side stills at highdef digest that clearly show the difference (pun intended).
