I kept my 6100 and gave the installer and old Navigo receiver a friend had lying around, no dish. Installer didn't care just needed something to take back.
I changed some cables around and the channels I had troubles with are working better but I will keep an eye on them. Another nitpick I found was the large variation in sound levels between channels. |

I'm curious to see how much customers Bell will lose with this promotion.

Up until they added the Eastern HD nets, it was pathetic, plain and simple.
I know, I have both and then some. Shaw only got HD motivated after taking a royal $h1t kicking over lack of HD while they had their heads looking at punching Telus with their IP Telephony product. I spent 8+ years at Shaw in Digital Cable, so I know darn well what goes on there. There are just now getting on board and I expect a closer parity with *C. *C will likely continue to lead the way over the 2 given they (through SBS/Cancom) are bringing the content for all the other cablocos out there and then Shaw has to find plant space and can do it in some locals and not others, while for *C, it's up for all right away. |

To set the 4:3 "override":
- power off the DCT - click "Menu" (within a second or so of powering off the DCT) That should bring up a text screen with some options for changing the HD output (1080i, or 720p), as well as 4:3 override (stretch is one of the options). Navigate around the menu with the arrow keys (either on the remote or on the DCT itself). Hopefully that's what you were looking for. |

I don't find Discovery HD to be unwatchable. I'll grant that pciture quality can vary greatly from show to show though.
PBS is brutal...A&E too, but they pretty much just stretch everything rather than broadcast in HD. CTV is usually fine (but I don't watch on it) but CBC is just a disgrace. Inferior cameras for their sports and pixellization. |

On Starchoice, I just counted 25 HD's. Take 1 away since no subs would get both MC and TMN and you still have 24 HD's. It's been a while since I went to school, but I'm damn sure the new math hasn't changed the fact that 25 is GREATER than 21. If your going to challenge me on something, you had better do your homework. If I'm fundamentally wrong on something technical, I'll be the first to acknowledge it, it the mean time, I stand by my posting record for accuracy and predictions. If you don't like my opinions, tough! |

Since we are speaking in English and in an English forum, I didn't take any other language channels into account any way. Besides, ABC West and MCHD2 are both missing from the SC lineup currently. So tell me again how SC is so much better? |

Yes, I mentioned this. But...they are not there right now. I was talking to ARR about content available RIGHT now.

Nimiq 1, if you had finished reading the sentence you were quoting, you might have figured out that TheIgster was about to subtract the 5 non-English stations from the 24 station SC grand total. In case you can't do the math, that gives 19 English-language stations for StarChoice, according to TheIgster's list.

Why would you remove them JUST because they are NOT English, they are still HD, are they not.?
Or is there some other way of reading this. An HD channel is an HD channel as far as I can see. Go ahead edumacate me. |

Because unless you are billingual, the French channels really are of no use to an English speaking individual. I'm not billingual, the French or other language channels mean nothing to me.
So, if you like, in COMPARISON OF ENGLISH SPEAKING HD CHANNELS, Shaw wins currently. In September when SC adds ABC West HD and MC2HD, then Shaw and SC will have exactly the same lineup. Currently, Shaw wins and in September, they will be equal. I fail to see how this puts SC WAY ahead of Shaw or Shaw's HD offerings to be below SC to the general English speaking population (of which I and ARR are members). There Nimiq...consider yourself edumacated. |

I guess you could also say that if you were French speaking Star Choice Win AGAIN.......
Why would you dismiss another HD channel just because YOU can't understand it. It's STILL HD, is it not.? |
