Hello everyone, I currently have a dct6412 that i purchased over a year ago. I record a mix of HD and regular programming but seem to always be at 85% or more space used.
I have seen that they have the 6416 with a 40gig larger hard drive - but for those that have maybe owned both is it worth the 750$ to upgrade for 40gigs of space? how much more recording time does that really net you and if i do go and purchase the new model does anyone know how much shaw will give me for my 6412?? |

Did you purchase the DVR from Shaw? If so, you may be able to negotiate an upgrade for much less.
Also, some people have changed out the internal HDD from 120 to 160 GB, which would only cost about $100 - thread in the appropriate forum. You cannot go beyond 160 GB because the Shaw firmware will not support more. I've moved your thread to the appropriate forum.

I purchased my pvr from a futureshop, so im not sure if that makes a difference when you want to trade in the old pvr.
I think i have one of the first models of the 6412 (Im not sure how to tell what phase it is) but from what i have been seeing that in the later models phase 3? they have better picture on displaying the analog channels, so if that is true i would be willing to pay the cost for better picture/more space. Would you happen to know around how much of a credit shaw gives you for a 6412 when going to the 6416? |

I had my 6412 for 2 years 11 months when it began giving problems. Admittedly they were minor but I was worried that with the 3 year expiry date it could get expensive.
Anyway Shaw swapped for a refurbished 6412 twice. They were worse than my original. Finally I wrote a polite EMail and they changed for a brand new out of the box 6416. I'm happy cause I'm able to store more recordings. But besides that its no different from the 6412. BTW the service was excellent. |
