Default Does This Exist? (Menu Driven Remote Audio Control)

I have my CDs ripped as mp3s onto an MCE home theatre on the second floor.

The HT is part of an Ethernet network and has a wireless option.

We also have a multi-room speaker setup with controllers in each room. The controllers permit selection of devices and loudness control. The amplifier for this is on the first floor.

I currently have an old Audiotron on the first floor to feed the mp3 files into the amplifier. So we can listen to the mp3 files in any room.

The problem is that we cannot select files from any room. We have to go down to the first floor any time we want to select titles.

I'm looking for a device that would permit us to remotely select albums, song titles, artists, genres, etc. to play through the amp that is on the first floor.

The device would have to have a video screen and be menu driven so that my wife could use it. It doesn't matter whether it is wireless or Ethernet as we have Ethernet on all three floors.

I'm wondering if the best option is just to buy an inexpensive laptop and find some kind of software to control either the Audiotron or some other device.

Check out NetRemote software from Promixis: http://promixis.com/products.php?section=netremote

It runs on Windows Mobile devices and Win32 as well so you can use a PDA or laptop.

I'm pretty sure the various Slingbox devices do what you want.

I don't thing Sling is quite a good fit or do the job ... Its a video oriented device and aimed at streaming a source rather than controlling a digital media library.

Something more in the lines of a remote controlled streamer would rather fit the bill from what I understand. A product like this:

I am pretty sure that Sonos and Slim also have something similar, but I am unaware if such a 'remote' type exists for the Audiotron. Those are the most popular of streamers, I am less familiar with others and there options.
