Default Buying an HDTV: is HDMI 1.3 worth the wait?

Hi I am going to be buying a new LCD tv in June. I am currently considering Sharp or Samsung models, just like their appeareance more. I am wondering if I should wait and get a model with 1.3HDMI, or is it even worth it. I am going to be buying a TV in the 40inch range. I will be hooking up a PS3 and a Shaw DCT6416, also am considering buying a surround sound system.

Any advice is appreciated.

Just make sure the set you end up getting has at least an ATSC tuner built in. (if it also has a QAM tuner all the better). Almost all TV's made in North America already have an NTSC built it, so don't worry about that part. So if you can find one that has all three, you are all set to go.

I would also look for one with multiply component and HDMI inputs. Imo, the more it has, the better. It will give you more room to grow in the future with everything slowing showing up with those on them.

Wasn't all those ATSC, QAM tuner, Cablecard...etc are useless for us in Canada?

ATSC is for digital Over the Air. If you're in or near a major city you can pick this up using your ATSC tuner. See the OTA forum.

Are you hooking it up to a source that has hdmi 1.3 outputs?

Even if you did, I don't see how going from "millions of colours" to Deep Colours "billions of colours" is going to make a damn bit of difference on a 40" set from eight or ten feet away!

PS3 has 1,3HDMI thats the only real reason why I was considering it.

Are you plan to get over 46" TV? Are you willing to pay high price on yoru TV (since I don't think hdmi 1.3 will be cheap, at least at this year)? If both answers are "YES", then you should wait for hdmi 1.3.

Good discussion on HDMI 1.3 over in the A/V receivers forum here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...t=53552&page=3

Post 39 had a link to a chart I found useful. Concensus seems to be not worth the wait but more info the better I always say. Good Luck.

If you don't plan to upgrade in the next 5 years, yes, wait for it; otherwise, no, get a TV with at least 3 HDMI 1.2 inputs right now. If I have to guess, you'll want to upgrade in at most 2-3 years, especially if you buy a small screen TV.
Another advice: my 52" LCD seems very small for BR quality even viewed from 6 feet, most movies being 2.35:1. If I would advise to wait for something, I would advise to wait for larger screens, at least 65", or buy a projector, if your conditions allow.
