Default Jaworski replacing Theismann in MNF booth on ESPN

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2812834

There will be a quarterback change in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth for the 2007 season.

Ron Jaworski will join Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser on the ESPN telecast. Jaworski replaces Joe Theismann, who has been offered a prominent football analyst job with the network.

Michele Tafoya and Suzy Kolber will continue as sideline reporters.

Interesting. A change is as good as a rest I suppose. Joe was starting to get on my nerves....

Jaws is great. Love him in the studio. Should be great in the booth.

I always thought Joe was the best thing about football on ESPN! I thought Tony Kornheiser was terrible. Guess I'm in the minority!

Don't get me wrong. Joe was great. It just seems like his presence has been taking over the booth the last couple of years.

I have to say that if things are as reported, and this came down to a Joe vs. Tony thing, I'm totally stunned that they'd ever have chosen Kornheiser. I love PTI. It's one of the few shows I really can't stand to miss. But PTI isn't MNF, and Tony is like a fish out of water there.

I liken Tony in a way to Chris Berman. Boomer was made for NFL Countdown/Primetime... but have you ever heard him take his schtick to ESPN's coverage of the golf's US Open?? Brutal. He just doesn't belong there. Same with Kornheiser and MNF. And it isn't like he's received stellar reviews in the booth. Heck, he even got lambasted by the media critic of his own newspaper!

I really have to believe that there's more to it than we know. Jaws will be good, I'm sure. But this one doesn't pass the smell test as currently reported.
