Default Discovery HD - Lack of Variety

Why doesn't Discovery HD offer more variety in their programming?

Discovery SD has many programs that are recorded in HD but are not shown on the HD channel. Instead they prefer to show continuous reruns of American Chopper, Mayday, How It's Made, Megabuilders, etc. with the occasional feature they play over and over again.

Discovery programming was discussed in the following threads.

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=34918

All of the HD programmes that are shown on the SD channel have been shown on the HD channel at some point in the past few years and are (re)shown every few months.

As indicated in the linked thread, there are several new programmes on each week. There just isn't any more of this type of programming available once they've run through the roster. Same for PBS - several new programmes each week, and a lot of repeats.

HDNet, NG-HD similar

However, with a few hours each week from each HD channel, you can very quickly have enough HD to fill every evening...

So I've read the two threads suggested and I pretty much echoed the same in my original posting aside from the discussion on free speech.

Not that I like commercials (praise the PVR) but maybe they need to start getting some sponsor money to develop new programming or acquire some of the additional programming from Discovery HD Theater.

I'd like to see The Mythbusters (new episodes) on D-HD and also Dirty Jobs.

HDNet in Canada is not the same one seen in the US as we all know and I rarely watch it because I don't find most of the programming that interesting, aside from some of the concerts.

PBS-HD is also pitiful. I think there are more shows in HD that they could air and choose not to. I think a lot of the how to shows are shot in HD but are not shown on the PBS-HD.

I find with Discovery, Oasis, and Equator, there is generally enough HD "informational" content to keep me occupied. Granted, they are limited to what they show but I generally watched at least 2-5 hours per week of this type of content. I agree though that Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs would be very appreciated in HD. With all the regular shows on the networks and TMN, there is more HD content than I can watch in a week.
