I also say Panasonic, it has a better stretch mode (important on Plasmas)

$600 for a warranty. In a couple of years you'll be able to buy a new TV for that...

I thought the 50" Pannys were around $2300-2500 now?

Here's someone's receipt for the 50" Panasonic at FS: $2159.98. It certainly pays to shop around.

that is unreal i was in there today and it was 2999.99 @FS that sickens me not to mention it was like 3 months ago i could handle price wise they don't play with there prices do they ? like can ya go in and haggle with them i am not to happy seeing that maybe i will just sit and wait till april when the new models are done being anounced this is worse than buying a house there are so many different things to look at

also is the 9 gen panel of the panny better than the 5 gen on the sammy like are they rated the same cause i dont understand how one can be at 9 and the same yr modle be at 5

That receipt was posted a couple of months ago on another thread. On that thread there has been some questions raised about the authenticity of that receipt. Without the contract ID# Futureshop cannot verify the transaction. The price on the receipt is just too good to be true.

Getting back on topic I would pass on the extended warranty because it's a ripoff. Check with your credit card company, most credit cards have what's called extended warranty which doubles the manufacturers warranty upto to one year.

+4 for the Panasonic, if you can cough up the extra cash grab the 50" you won't regret it.

I'd go with the Samsung. I had a 50" Samsung (older model) and now I have the 50" panasonic. The Samsung was good in some things, panasonic good in others. For the price difference it's a no-brainer.

The Panasonic is better, but if you can't see any difference, then it may not make much difference to you. Why do a lot of research to notice differences that you wouldn't have noticed before, just to make you spend several hundred dollars more? Buy the cheaper one and be happy. Consumer Reports said in their survey that the #1 regret of HDTV buyers was that they should have gone bigger.
