I bought an Atari 2600 in October of 1982 (a little late). I saved up money from my paper route, and it cost me as much in 1982 dollars as my XBOX cost me in early 2002! Ah, Consumer's Distributing.
My first games were the pack-in Asteroids and Combat. I also bought Kaboom! and my father bought me Pac Man, which was the hot game that Christmas; despite being a total crap version of the game. Pac Man was $58. That's what I paid for Halo 2 before this past Christmas! Crazy. My wife on the other hand was an Intellivision person. |

Good old Dad bought us the original Pong home console from Atari when it came out (after much begging from my brother and I).

Intellivision and the included Astrosmash. Man, that was a fun console and a heck of a lot better than the Atari systems then. I got really good at Astrosmash, Burgertime, Night Stalker, Tron Deadly Discs and AD&D. Weirdest thing I saw was playing MLB on the slowest setting and bunting a homerun.
If you're looking for an Intellivision fix don't bother with the blue handheld one that attaches to your TV. It's terrible. Many of the games are impossible to play (too fast, bad colours) and have been stripped down. |

Intellivision - paid about $400 for it in oh I'd say 1982. Sub hunt, sea armada and to get the heart racing Dungeons and Dragons.
My brother-in-law had a pong machine. |

I have the Intellivision compilation for XBOX. Many games are difficult to play due to the lack of a proper controller (somebody could make some money putting out a TV Games Intellivision controller with pack-in games), but Astrosmash is quite good due to the simple controls.
License games, like Tron, aren't on it. |

My first was a Colecovision system with the free Donkey Kong cartridge. It was given to me by my parents for my tenth birthday, in the summer of 1982.
I had Donkey Kong Jr., Zaxxon (great game!), Rocky(terrible game), Carnival, Bump n' Jump,Looping, Sewer Sam (fun) and Tarzan. My cousin Carrie had a ton of Coleco games. She also had the Atari 2600 adapter with a boatload of Atari games as well. Ten years later, I'd purchase a Genesis system. NHL Hockey, NHL 93 and NHL 95 were my favourite sports games. World Series Baseball wasn't bad for it's time either. I recall having a basketball game. I think it was NBA 95? I got a kick out of Ren and Stimpy's invention. Today, I have a PS2 and Xbox. On Xbox I have Atari Anthology,Evil Dead:A fi****ll of boomstick,AMF Bowling 2004,NHL 2004, Midway Arcade treasures 1 &2, Intellivision Lives and Sonic Mega collection plus (brings me back to the Genesis days!). I have mainly been playing PS1 games on my PS2 console. I have all the Resident Evil games(1,2,3) plus Resident Evil:Code Veronica X for the PS2. More PS1 games include Nightmare Creatures and Dino Crisis. I really want to get my hands on Dino Crisis 2. The other PS2 game that I have is Activision Anthology, a collection of Activision's games for Atari's 2600 console. Someone asked if Pong is available on newer game consoles. "Atari Anthology" was relased a couple of months ago. It has some 80 old 2600 games, including the arcade and home console version of Pong. It's available on the Xbox and PS2 home consoles. Still have it in it's original box. Next was: ADAM the ColecoVision Family Computer System. It came with a Daisy wheel printer(whacka, whacka) and manuals for programming in SmartBASIC. I still have the following games: Omega Race Gyruss Defender Centipede Q*bert LadyBug Cosmic Avenger Venture Frogger Best game for the ADAM was: Buck Rogers-Planet of Zoom Why do I still have 2 of these?

My first system (that was MINE) was a Nintendo. I received Legend of Zelda then too. I still have a couple NES systems, and a bunch of fairly hard to come by gear like Power Pad, Power Glove, Virtual Boy

Anyone ever have a Bally? My wife's mother bought her and her brothers one because they were out of Ataris. The sales guy at Macleod's told her it would be the hot new thing. Probably a collector's item now.

I think i played my first game on Nintendo , Mario brothers, I remember we got it for the kids for Christmas, and I wanted to check it out first.......So I ended up staying up til 4 in the morning while the kids were fast asleep with sugar plums dancing in their heads, and I realised I was addicted... My thumb hurt all the next day hehehe!
However my first computer game was a sci fi game called "Rama" from the books by Aurthur Clarke, loved that game!! wish I'd never traded it in...... Second comp game was "Blade Runner" I loved that game too |
