I assume this is true for any of the ISP's that bundle Norton anti-virus suite in with their security suites.

Another example of Vista's MANY compatibility issues. As the article mentions there has been plenty of time for everyone to get their products upgraded to support it properly. It seems many vendors simply chose to wait until the release date to test their products! The backwards compatibility we have taken for granted with Windows products has come to end, it seems.

Perhaps some forum members will be kind enough to post replies in this thread with links to free anti-virus / anti-spyware / anti-phishing / anti-spam solutions that are certified to be Vista-compatible.

Honestly, I was shocked at this. I mean how long have these guys had to test Vista Beta and Vista.
Not to mention, Rogers should have notified customers BEFORE Vista was released to the retail channel

It's not just their protection software.
Their self-healling software also will not install on Vista. I don't think any of the Rogers hi-speed software will work with Vista. Kind of unbelievable. I'm just hoping they'll have it sorted before the 60 day free trial of Norton that came with my new PC expires. I found Rogers protection quite good on my old XP machine and would appreciate getting all that's supposed to be included in my software package from them before having to go out and search out another solution. BTW, thanks to Digital Home for the tip on the free protection! |

spin-dizzy, I'm running Vista with AVG Free Edition 7.5 anti-virus and MS Defender 1.1 anti-spyware. Both are free and running well under Vista. In fact, Defender was pre-installed on my Vista laptop.. I think it is standard with Vista.

I had a lovely chat with Rogers "tech support" about this issue a couple weeks ago when I upgraded to Vista. These idiots spew out company BS about it being delayed due to assurances of your computer's safety blah blah blah.
As a developer myself, I've been testing in Vista for well over 6 months, Any responsible software company has at least a rudimentary product that is Viata ready. It may need improvements, but release SOMETHING. I mentioned to the Rogers rep that Norton DOES have a VISTA-ready package. Why can't they purchase liscence numbers from Symantec to give to their Vista clients? I ended up purchasing a 3rd party antivirus software package (Microsoft OneCare). I think that Rogers owes me the purchase price, but I'm not niave enough to believe that I'll see any $$ from them. Rogers is just being cheap in not putting enough developers on this very important issue. |

Personally I think Rogers has really dropped the ball.
Having said that, I don't think Rogers has any developers. I imagine this is all done by Yahoo! Rogers should have been tearing a strip off Yahoo! long ago. |

Just so you know, Rogers released an "interim security solution" on March 15, in cooperation with Norton. When someone has Vista and they try to install the current Rogers security software they are blocked from downloading and automatically given a link to a special Norton site for new compatible software with rogers tech support.

So six weeks after Vista hits retail and five months after Vista went Gold, Rogers puts in a redirect link.

I have not used, and will not use any of the software provided by an internet service provider.. especially one by Norton.
I am much happier controlling my own destiny. (Rogers High Speed user Oct 1995-March 2007 virus free for 11.5 years) |

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone with Vista has resolved there compatibility problems with Vista and and the Norton Bundle with Rogers? I personally have spent atleast 6 hours with Rogers both on the phone and in a live chat sessions (even trying remote sharing) trying to resolve the failed installation of the software download - it's not their problem - so they say. Is this a lost cause for me, do I lose the 100+ or so dollar value they say I have gained by subscribing and what do I do now that I have no antivirus software? Has anyone resolved the failed installation or is iy a lost cause and do I just go and purchase my own security from Norton - not a fan of McAfee? tired of talking on the phone. |
