I have the SA8300HD HDMI out to SONY TV, and Optical out to SONY AMP/DVD. Was able to listen to the 83000HD volume on either the TV or AMP.
The TV Volume was crutial for the In-Laws. As of Saurday morning, unable to get sound to the TV via HDMI. AMP is still ok. Called ROGERS Support, usual...25 minutes on hold, only to be told that they do not support HDMI, and I should use component cables instead. Suggestions to get sound back to the TV via HDMI? |

See the following (Set the audio option on the STB to DD instead of HDMI in order to get DD5.1 on the AVR usually "defeats" the HDMI output) Audio should be set to "fixed" on the STB not "variable" and controlled by the TV, not the STB:

Thanks! Really great information. Can't wait to get home and try. I will follow up...
Sorry that I did not find the previous posts. I did search, but I guess my criteria was incorrect. Appreciate the redirects. Last edited by SaskAir; 2007-03-06 at 01:18 PM. Reason: Added comments |

Mysteries of electronics continue...
Did as specified in the previous posts, still could not get audio from the STB to the TV. Turned everything off, and cut the power for a five minute reboot. Flipped the HDMI cable to ensure that it was inserted properly. Brought everything back and confirmed settings. Still no audio. Tried to "drill down" the audio settings on the TV, but in HDMI (Video7) mode, the TV does not let you do much. So, went to the STB and selected HDMI instead of DD. Low and behold, audio for the first time in four days! Now, could not confirm or deny DD was/was not going to the AMP. Lights were on, and indication was DDII, but could not locate a program that I knew was fully DD. That has yet to be tested. Hoping (again) that this is back to normal. Thanks again for your help and keep up the great work on this website! |

I believe that if you have HDMI enabled that you don't get DD5.1 out the optical/coaxial ports, but I could be wrong.
Here's information on DD5.1. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17870 I assume you connected analogue audio cables (red/white) from the STB to the TV - ensure the analogue cables are going to the input associated with HDMI - this is not always "clear" from looking at the back and you may wish to revisit that "drill down" audio setting...

With my setup, selecting DD will mean no sound on my TV (but DD through my receiver) because my TV cannot decode DD. I have the TV connected by HDMI and the receiver connected by optical. I leave it set to DD and don't use the TV speakers at all. |

what if my stb does not have a hdmi option, i have the pace 551 and only have the dolby or other option.
i still cant seem to get audio to go through my avr, although the indicators on the avr shows dolby being decoded, its just not getting pushed through to the tv. |

If you're renting the Pace, replace it with an SA4250HD. Try a cold reboot, that may also bring up the HDMI option. Also, you may need to have an HDMI cable connected to see the option?
http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=17719 SA Tips I'm not sure what you mean by the last sentence. Are you using HDMI for audio? If so, there's typically a setup menu item in the AVR that allows for sound in the AVR or to be passed to the TV, but not both. Depends on the AVR. What's the make/model? Also see the following post, useful for those new to the forum - FAQs, Search Tips, Optimization, etc: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=57741
