So my Sharp 46” LCD died and not having a second TV in the house and not wanting to experience TV withdrawal, with some good television on, I went out and purchased an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid for my 20” iMac. I didn’t really care about being able to record or have a tuner because all I wanted to do was hook up the Motorola 6416 PVR to view whatever was coming out of it’s outputs. The Motorola 6416 PVR does all the tuning, recording and scheduling.
Anyways, after installing the software, hooking it all up, doing the software upgrade, adjusting the output of the PVR I was able to view a half decent picture on the iMac. All the HD recordings displayed wide screen and even the SD channels from the PVR looked better that what was displayed on the Sharp 46”. Sure comes in handy while I am waiting for the Sharp to be repaired under warranty. I definitely would want to watch everything on the Mac though |

I have the Elgato Hybrid hooked up to my 24"iMac and think it is just amazing. I'm using it in a completley opposite fashion as to what you are...which speaks to the versatility of this unbelievably tiny usb device. I've attached an antenna to it and receive a few channels of OTA HD that I'm able to record on my iMac and then migrate to my iPod. I've also hooked up my xbox through the s-video connection and am able to game using my 24" iMac as the display with zero latency.
The Elgato Eyetv Hybrid rocks!...if you have a mac! darren |

My model does not come with an antenna. I checked on the website and they don't sell the antenna as an accessory. Anyone know where to get one.

Well...
I did a search on ebay and found a guy selling the Philips Silver Sensor for something like $30 american...but it did say that he was in Toronto and that you could do a pick up from him with a $5 handling charge. It turned out he was right around the corner from my office...I gave him $25 canadian for an open box unit and it seems to work fine. Do a search on ebay....you'll find something. darren |

The Elgato website says the software bundle includes the ability to check listings. Does anyone know if Elgato's listing software work in Canada?
I would love to have a decent TV listing app as the online offerings are way to akward and slow. pk

Guide for the Elgato is not supported in Canada. You can get US listings but that won't be of much use.

If you are willing to roll up your sleeves, you may be able to make it work with EyeTV EPG Proxy. Print out the instructions from the web site and follow them very closely. You'll have to use the Terminal to do any troubleshooting. With perserverance, it worked for me.
But you are pretty close to Seattle. If you are looking to receive OTA, maybe you can just find a zip code close to the Canadian border and pretend you are located there? Craig |
