My watch died today. The truth is I never wear the damn thing. With cell phones, car clocks, computer clocks etc, I never think to put one on.
I used to have several when I was young and never went out without it. Do you still wear one?

I go to work when I wake up, I come home when I'm done and my PDA beeps at me in plenty of time to get to any appointment/meeting.
Who needs a watch? |

I guess I should ask those that don't - Did you wear one regularly before cellphones, crackberries and Laptops?

I used to wear one, but about 7-8 years ago it stopped working, and I never replaced it.
I realised that the time is always at my fingertips, there's alarm clocks in my bedroom, the microwave always has the time, as does the Roger's PVR - which I can always trust to be pretty much bang on. As soon as I get in the car, there is the clock there. Most of the time outside the house, I'm carrying a cell-phoe, which I occasionally pull out and check the time. At work the computer is never far away, with the time on it. On the very rare occasion I'm out somewhere, and don't have a cell phone, or car, with me, any Bell payphone displays the time. As do all the parking meters these days. Can't say I've missed the watch at all. And I've lost the subconscious habit of glancing at my watch frequently - much less stressful. And no tan lines! |

I quit wearing mine this past Christmas - a Timex Iron-something-or-other was my daily use watch, and a mid grade Bulova (300 dolars, or so) is my fancy goin' to town' watch.
The Timex locked up on me in the shower - seems when the battery gets low, it will freeze up and not increment anymore. I haven't fixed it. My Bulova was my wedding present 16 years ago - I still like it and treasure it very much, as it is essentially my wedding band. I don't wear jewelry of any kind other that a watch, as my job can put me into situations where electrical contact or electrical induction could result in a nasty burn - so my wife accepted that a wedding band would never be worn. She bought me the watch of my choice instead. The Bulova is notoriously hard on batteries - I belong to the lifetime battery club at a local jeweler, and so far, they've replced the battery at least twenty times, as It seems it will only last two - three months at best. I was quite often caught wearing a watch with a dead battery. |

When my last watch died -- five years ago, I think -- I just stopped wearing one. I noticed that the time was everywhere, like nfitz says. And a lot of people seem more than happy to pull out there cell phones to let me know the time if I ask them.
Now, however, I own an iPod and a cell phone, and both display the time when I'm out of the house. So no need for a watch anymore, it seems. Besides, the metal straps always dug uncomfortably into my wrist, and the plastic strap would always break on me. cheers, supervij |

I feel naked if I don't have it on. So it goes on soon as I wake up with my glasses and comes off at night.
The kicker is I almost never look at the thing. In the city with cell phones and clocks everywhere only when I am out of town and in the country do I find me self looking at it.

I rarely wear one for the same reasons stated above, although I don't have an iPod or cellphone - but time displays are pretty ubiquitous. When younger I always had nice watches - an Accutron when they first came out and also a nice slim quartz watch when first available. I don't think I've bought a watch since (about 25 years now)
I have two watches that were presents from my employer for milestones and both are pretty nice, so I wear them out occasionally if I dress up (dressing up for me is smart casual)

I stopped wearing one about 4 years ago. I always had the latest prototype fully featured mobile phone/PDA device as a tester because of the job I had, so I used its clock and calendar features for meetings and schedules. A watch seemed superfluous.
Now I just don't care about what time it is. Reminds me of a Cheech & Chong bit: "Oh wow man, I'm not into time." That's me now. |

OK all you guys that don't wear a watch anymore, STOP asking me for the bloody time!. Just kidding. I think.
I rarely have my cell phone on, don't own a PDA or MP3 player with time. I hate leaving the house without a watch on. I could spend 4 hours at Home Depot and not realize it.
