Yeah....your name says it all BEVFAN.
I did so much when 1/2 the refurbs they send don't work from the get go, just like the one I received yesterday. The case of this refurb 9242 looks worse than my old 5900. The rubber feet look like they have been dragged over asphalt and gravel. So that is my fault. Yes, you should work for BELL.....blame the customer. I take excellent care of my stuff, and am doing nothing wrong. It's pathetic. Meanwhile, I have no TV in my HT for over a week. |

I have the same issue with sound on my 9242. I got this as a replacement for my 9200 that had a sound skipping issue on SD, but the 9242 seems to have it on HD too. It seems to be a function of the 'audio sync' "feature", as it is distinctly different than the sound skipping on the 9200. On the 9242 it is a much shorter duration than on the 9200 box.
So, my 9242 does not have a seamless expansion via EHD, and has similar (worse since it's also on HD) sound skipping problems to the 9200. At least it's black. |

Hi all,
I am having great troubles with Bell and not getting a clear answer. Do you have to have 2 tv's connected to the 9242 in order to record a tv show and watch another tv show at the same time?? I was hoping to have the DVR work as a stand alone unit, but it doesn't look like I can do that. I bought the PVR and was given very little detail about what I would need to do in order to make it work. I previously had a 6100 reciever for HD. It appears I need to have a second line installed in my basement which is a problem. I am reading on this site that I possibly can use a DPP separator to get the second line installed. Can someone clear things up. I know I don't have the Sw44 switch on my dish but I am not sure if I have the LNB's that I need for the separator to work. I have been reading many pages of this site but still very confused and Bell isn't helping much. |

I am guessing that you have 2 LNBF's and at least 1 x SW21 behind the Dish, all Legacy equipment. The 'official' way to make it work if you ONLY have the 9242 is to add a second SW21, then run a second line to the 9242. If you still have and intend to use the 6100 as well, you need an SW44, then still run another line to the 9242. If you are not concerned about it being 'official', get a DPP Twin LNBF, it has 2 outputs, you run one to each receiver then behind the 9242 you use the DPP Seperator. PM, me if you need help finding a DPP LNBF. |

Thanks Pinza,
From what I can tell by looking at my dish from the ground is two sw21 are aleady installed. I do have a 3100 in my bedroom now as well I did not put that in my original post. At this time I do not have an HDTV in my room so I do not have plans for the 6100 as of right now. Will the DPP separator work if I have two sw21? |

Well, after 7 years of owning Expressvu equipment (2700, 5100, 9200, and 9242), I've had my first hardware failure. My 9242 started resetting on its own a few days back, and it got to the point where it would boot up, acquire the sat. signal, run for anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes, and then shut down, with the fan running full, and the green light on the front cycling in about a 1 minute on / 1 minute off pattern. Seems like a power supply problem or a heat problem. Anyhow, last night, I called Bell, jumped through all the hoops on the phone with tech support, and ultimately, they put me on with a senior tech, who happily agreed to ship me a replacement 9242. They said they'll ship it out by courier ASAP, and then I can just put the old receiver in the self-addressed, postage paid box that comes with my new unit. They even said the courier company will pick it up at my house. I was anticipating having to return it to Futureshop, or pack it up and ship it myself, or wait weeks for a replacement, etc., so I was pleasantly surprised by their replacement policy.
Overall, even in spite of this hardware failure, I have to say that my Bell experience has been good. I sold the 2700 long ago, but my 5100 that I bought back in 2001 is still running fine, although the hard drive is a bit noisy. The 9200 has never had any problems. I see a lot of threads about faulty BEV hardware, but I guess I've been lucky - I've owned/ used four receivers over 7 years, and this is my first failure :-) |

My 2nd receiver in 2 wks (4th since I bought new in March) arrived with the power and mode buttons pushed inside the case. These refurbs have extremely poor quality control. Anyone know who does the refurbishing of this equipment?

NESA of Hood Road, in Markham is where almost all receivers in Ontario go.
National Electronic Service Association. |

Of course...as soon as I read your post it clicked.
Thanks. I have seen NESA on many Purolator labels, and should have remembered that. Did a search and found their web site...seems they service for big names like Canon, Xerox, Toshiba and others. Frankly, based on my experience with Bell hardware, I am surprised. They really need to better train their technicians on the Bell equipment or incorporate better quality control. Or perhaps it is an issue with Bell Cust Service reps not properly documenting details of the issues with the receivers being returned and/or not relaying all the details to NESA who in turn fixes only part of the problem. Not sure, but something is not working. Anyway, my other almost-2-month-old 9242 has been working without issue, so keeping my fingers crossed. That said, last week I had an issue where the picture was freezing for a 2nd and repeating every 3 or 4 seconds. I simply reset the receiver and its been good since. The sky was clear so not a reception issue that I can tell. Anyone else experience this? |

I have just received my new 9242 from bell and it seems to be working fine. I do have one question about PIP though. Is it possible to change the "smaller screen" in PIP mode to a different channel? I know I can press up or down keys to change the channel on the "bigger screen" but I couldn't figure out how to do the same thing on the smaller screen. My system is now running on single mode. Thanks!

You can't change the channel of the picture in PIP mode but if you swap the tuners you can change the channel then swap back to your original picture. I'm not sure why you would want to change the channel of the smaller screen in the first place.

I know that's what I'd want it for. It would be nice if the "Page" up and down buttons would change the PIP channel up and down, since they have no other function when there's no guide or menu on the screen. |

Please elaborate on how to swap the tuners. Sorry I am a total noob when it comes down to these things.
