When I was in dual mode, the first recording would ask which tuner to record with. I'm in single mode now, and the first recording automatically starts with tuner 2 (has a little 2 in the guide).

Default 2 cables

I have purchased a 9242. I have ran only one cable (RG6) to the reciever (only need to run 1 tv off it). It seems to work fine but when the power shuts off or I shut it down for long periods (12 hours) it gives me a check switch demand. After i check switch then it is fine. Will running this 2nd line get rid of this? It seems a waste because it works fine for 1 TV once you do a check switch. I have tried to leave my reciever on 24 / 7 but it shuts down after a while of inactivity. Thanks in advance.

It needs both feeds to function properly, as you've found out.

Hi
I just bought a 9242. Im having it installed tomorrow. My setup will be as follows:

1) I have 2 tvs side by side in the basement, both will be connected, one via HDMI, and the other via Component (im 100% ok with them getting the same signal)

2) Eventually ill have a tv in the kitchen, so Im gonna ask them to run a coax to there

will I still be able to record 2 programs at once? If yes, will I be able to control that using a single remote?

Thanks

Yes, if you have 2 feeds, one to each tuner.

In single mode one remote controls TV1 and TV2, in dual mode 2 remotes are used.

I am curious to see if anyone notices flickering on HD hockey broadcasts. It has happenned with all 4 9242 boxes I've had, on my LCD and the secondary CRT as well.

Hooked up the second cable and it worked. Sure seems like a waste of a line when I only had one hooked up before and it worked but would always need to check switch. Hopefully bell will fix this because I was hoping to buy another one of these to put in another room but if I have to run 2 lines just to fix this problem then I won't.

I wouldn't expect Bell to "fix this problem" with the 9242; two tuners need two input cables (unless using DPP gear). However, the 6141 may someday serve as a single-tuner HD-PVR, requiring only a single input cable, if and when they enable attachment of an external disk to it.

Question Tinny sound on 9242, Channel 300?

Hi.

Got my 3rd replacement 9242 a week or so ago.

Anyone notice that channel 300 (Movie Channel) has a tinny effect when certain characters speak? For example, Santa Clause 3.....its very noticeable when Tim Allen speaks, but not necessarily any of the other characters. Also noticed it on another movie we watched on the same channel a day or so ago. Its seems its tied to certain voice frequencies.

I have not noticed it on any other channels, but I can hear it when played thru my TV, thru my home theatre, and thru my 2nd TV on TV2.

I tried on my 5900 and I can notice it somewhat, but because the TV is different quality, it is not as noticeable. Hard to tell for sure.

Anyone else? I wonder if this is my 9242 or if this is an issue with the Movie Channel audio broadcast?

Thx.
Cheers.

gtpalmer - yes. I noticed the flickering on the NHL and if you also noticed a break in the signal - pixelation. I still have my other sets hooked up to broadcast (antenna - yes some of us still use broadcast going on 53 yrs now) and they were doing the same thing so I didn't concern myself. Out west here for the Flames game, they were having so many problems they switched feeds for about 10 mins. No HD! Only had the unit for a couple of weeks now, but it does ruin you for analogue.

I got my 9242 installed on friday. Im very pleased so far.

My question is this. If I program it to record something, do I have to wait until its finished to start watching it?

The eastern conference NHL games start at 5pm in my area, but I get home at around 5:30-5:45, so I didnt want to miss the beginning of the game.

Thanks

Nope - just pick it from the recordings list and start.

I find that this is when the 9242 gets buggy. If I only watch a fully recorded event or live tv, I don't really have any issues.

Default does 9242 need standby?

Quote:
I'm quite sure its the HDD spinning, not a fan. I find it runs constantly even if the receiver has been "off" for over 12 hrs. Also, I have left the receiver on for over 8 hours of not watching anything (forgot to turn it off), and that 4 hr standby timer did nothing that I could tell. They should be able to modify the S/W to turn off the HDD, why have it running when there are no upcomming timers?
Still unsure, but is it really necessary to turn off 9242 receiver only for programming updates? (mine is enabled for 4hr default standby). Do I need to turn off for both TV1 & TV2 modes? Is there anything else to gain when turning off receiver, besides saving $$ on electrical bill?
