So far, the 9242 that I just received has been 100% better than any of the 9200s I have had. Faster, no audio drops and quieter. Very impressed so far.

Default TV2 question

Is there any way of getting TV1 and TV2 to hookup to 2 separate HDTV's and actual receive the signal in HD or is TV1 the only 1 that can run HDTV?
From reading the manual it looks like just TV1, am I correct on this or is there another way?
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Default Hard Disk error 05c1 on 9242

Woke up this morning and my wife turned on the 9242, from Tuner 2 TV, and the above error was on the screen. Selected OK and got picture back and all seems normal.

Is this something I should be concerned about or call Bell about? My receiver is about 3 wks old.

Last night we were losing picture on HD, I believe because of the bad weather locally.

I hope this is not going to be a repeat of my 9200 horror where I had to get 5, yes 5 replacements for one of my 9200s in just over a year.

Thx.

Concerned? Yes. Panic? No.

It is always a good idea to call and report it, particularly on a new unit. It may never come back, but if it does at least you would have a note on your file and some "history" about the problem. This may help getting a replacment if required down the road.

I have had the same error twice now (2 months) everything seems to work fine - I have not called as it is a rental and easy enough to get replaced.

TV 2 Output is SD (low def) only. I never use it.

for 2 HDTV's you'd need 2 differnent recievers.
I have 2 so far, need a 3rd soon.

IF you want both on the same output, you can use HDMI for one and Component+digital audio for the other. Same program.

I heard a few weeks ago that Dish Network/Echostar is coming out with a receiver that will do a 2nd HD output using the ATSC tuner of another TV instead of the current NTSC analog tuner. It will probably be some time before Bell would get this receiver.

Default Error 05c1

Well, my wife called and said that no PVR functions work on the receiver. Asked to reset the receiver but have not heard back. Will have to call Bell when I get home I guess but its not looking good.

Sounds like your hard drive has gone or is going bad according to that specific error code. That's too bad.

Before having your 9242 replaced, you may want to try reformatting the hard disk. Follow the instructions in post #1 of this thread http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=46510. You will lose your recordings however.

Losing the recordings would be a minor setback compared to being unable to access ANY of the PVR functions

However, although easily done particularly with the info posted, I would be reluctanct to suggest to anyone that they follow "extreme" steps such as these without the express request from a CSR/Tech support person.

These commands are not "normal" in the sense that there is no preset menu option and are "hidden" for a reason. That isn't to say they should never be done......but the info should be presented with the disclaimer reinforced.

There is a list of compatible Hard Drives for the vip622/92xx receiver's I came across the other day, but can't seem to locate it again. From what I understand the 92xx receivers don't need to marry to the hard drive from virgin state, I believe if you plug them in they will function as they should, although this is just going by what someone else told me and I haven't tried it first hand yet. I'll try and hunt down a list for you, maybe it's easier just to replace the SATA HDD on your own, at least it gives you another option.

I don't think BEV technical support will suggest reformatting the hard disk. I guess he'll have to weigh the risk of getting a refurbished receiver, vs. possibly fixing his current one with a simple step.
