Sony is coming out with a cheap dedicated BD player this summer and expect further price cuts by the end of the year.
HD DVD price cuts, if you beleive the rumours, are around the corner. Competition is good. |

Not to keep beating this poor horse,
Actually, the biggest problem for me is having to buy more than one player. With a two year old at home I don't want to be restricted to one TV, or having to buy some HD movies (trying to stay format neutral) and some standard DVDs. |

No posts about the format war in over 24 hrs - now this is bad - even we are starting to lose interest in it.

Too busy watching HD DVD movies
Anyway, I did find it interesting that Samsung, the first BD hardware maker is now selling a notebook with a HD DVD drive. http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/show...668#post515668 |

Man I have all my clams burning a hole in my pocket and then some, just have no idea on what to buy. I do not want to make the wrong decision. From reading here and on AVS and other sites I think a universal format will come on strong in the next few months with more players from different vendors. If I was a betting man even some of the B-ray studios will go neutral and do both. One can only hope, but it is still to early to dish out my clams.........
Price drops of HD DVD players you bet ya..........I think we will see retails of the A2 at $399.00 and the A20 at $499.00. Hmmm good upscaler, but I would pay a slight premiumn of a universal player. |

Shock and horror!
Last weeks sales for HD-DVD / BluRay were 46:54 and this weeks are 59:41 according to DVDempire. So much for the BluRay steamroller. |

It's true. All you need is one week's sales to tell all about anything. Must be true.
Man, it's pretty amusing watching this war... Cal |

Blu-ray is stomping all over HD DVD at amazon. That took away plenty of sales from DVD Empire. Also, when did dvdempire become the catalyst for who's winning?
Videoscan is the only thing worth trusting. Because those are based on store and online sales. |

Agreed, people are being way too opportunistic by using figures from insignificant sources.
I nominate Nielsen Videoscan. |

I figured this would fire up this thread again.
I fully agree that any one sales figure doesn't mean squat and I've stated as much many times. |

I think that jvincent was so bored he had to poke the war because there were so very few new HD DVD titles to watch.
ooh, ouch, did I just say that? I joke, I kid. Cal |

As did I.
I'm just countering the Sony propaganda about 4:1 and 5:1 sales volumes that they conveniently produced earlier. I've always maintained that until at least the end of this year there can be no clear winner since the number of titles is still tremendously low, H/W is still relatively expensive, etc. |

ya, I take back my previous previous post.. it's tough sometimes to gauge whether someone is serious or not because I have seen such arguments made to prop up both sides' position.
I really have no idea where this thing will end up. Cal |
