hi all,
just had my new 51F500 delivered last week. Hope you all can help me iron out a few bugs. 1/plugged in all the cables as per the Hitachi diagram. I have a VCR, DVD, and Bell ExpressVu. Cannot seem to tape my tv programs to the VCR. Plugged 1 vcr to inputs 4 and 5 using AV cables. Can play tapes fine on input 4. How do I tape from my satellite tv? 2/this is weird. I thought I had everything except problem 1/ worked out. Until I sat down to use the tv tonight and realized I seem to have some co exstance problems. I program the DVD code to the Hitachi remote. Fine, it works. Then I program the ExpressVu IRD code (32) to Hitachi remote. Seems fine. Then I realize the remote seems to lose the DVD remote code when I use the remote to control the IRD. So I reprogram the DVD. Then I lose the IRD. I observe that the IRD, Expressvu, DVD, VCR codes seem to either cancel each other out, or somehow have problems co existing on the Hitachi remote. I place the DVD and IRD on top of the tv, on opposite ends of the set. The VCR was on the floor. Advice? I am bringing the remote and instructions tomorrow night to Future Shop. Maybe there is problem with remote?? thanks all. |

Babe, welcome to the forum.
1. You need to get the video and audio signals from the satellite box to the VCR - with composite or S-video cables depending on the VCR and also the analogue audio. This may require "piggyback" cables or "Y" connectors. 2. Check out the HT FAQ section, link below. In there you'll find a post on how to connect your VCR & STB (Satellite will be slightly different since the post was written for cable but it should give you some idea - just ignore the part about the RF coax since that's cable). 3. Also check out the other FAQs like "What you need to do to your new HDTV". http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/for...forum.php?f=57

Regarding #2, sounds like your reprogramming the same set of buttons.
Presumably you should be reprogramming the DVD/VCR button for your DVD and the CBL/SAT button for the satellite receiver. |

I purchased the 51f500 as well. But I'm now thinking I should have bought the 46f500 instead. The picture looked a bit sharper in the smaller size. Can anyone share your thoughts with me on this ?

I'd really like to know your thoughts on the picture quality of these units.
I'm seriously considering the 46f500. |

I recently (a week ago) got the 57F500 and so far it looks great. If you're feeding it an analog signal, at that size, it looks awful. CNN, for instance, looks much better on a regular 27 inch TV. All edges look jagged. But I was surprised how good an HDTV signal looks as well as propressive scan DVDs. Video games (xbox) that are 480p look poor. You get used to them, but they, like standard TV signals, look bad at that size. But I rented one game at 720p and it looked very good, almost HDTV quality. So if you're counting on more HD stations being added in the coming months and years to your cable, and if you play video games and foresee more 720p games coming, the 57 is great.

hi, update on my original posting
good news. A friend of mine figured out the recording from satellite program. Basically the satellite feed now goes directly into the VCR. When I go to Input 4 now, it always shows the input from satellite. I had to buy two splitters to make this happen. I don't know how many people would buy two VCRs to hook up, as per the HItachi manual. I sure didn't want to to do that. As for the remotes problem, just want to confirm that I was indeed programming the device problems separately, (not trying to program the same one continuously). I still never got the HItachi remote to suppport two devices simultaneously. So I called Hitachi support and they will send a new remote..I'll let you know if that solves the problem. Sometimes I notice a sort of burst of colour on the tv screen, like the picture is not focused properly. Anyone know how to fix this? I do like the set very much so far. |
