Once again Sony is proclaiming victory. I guess nobody believed them a month ago.
Sony is so confident that Bishop said the studio plans to begin marketing the format to consumers as the winner of the format war. “The message that we’re going to put out to the consumer now is, now it is safe to make a choice,” he said. “No more fence-sitting is needed.” |

Well then, if the format war is truly over, then let's see Sony convince their BD partners to put all those back catalogue titles out.

I wish they would spend as much effort on releasing new game titles as they seem to on declaring format victory.
But to Cyclism's point, I would buy more BD titles if they were to release some classics (like the Blues Brothers!!) and especially some concert videos. i am more interested in purchasing concerts than movies any day. |

As the article says, they're trying to get f sitters to buy into their format. With no Spielberg titles on HD DVD, it makes decisions a lot easier.

This kind of stunt from Sony is exactly why I'm pulling for HD DVD. I just don't want this company in control of the High Definition DVD format. I'll take Toshiba any day!

What stunt are you referring to? How is Sony "controlling" anything exactly? They are not the only backers of the format. There are dozens of H/W manufacturers and studios besides Sony that are behind BD as well...
If Sony really wants to end this they should do a simultaneous release of Spider-Man 3 on BD and in theaters. If they revoke all the software players from being able to play the release they should have a few solid weeks of piracy-free sales... Until someone decides to hack via HDMI or hack at their pricey standalone player or game console. |

Have you actually been following this format war??? Both sides have been release this type of article for months. Remember when HD DVD sent out the article attached with their pro mo Semi Trailer??? Please avoid from making pointless comments...in my opinion, I would agree with you it was only a one constant..but its not... I think that is why they call it a "War"?? |

I can't help but associate Sony and their war victory with the Irak spokesman during the war. He kept saying that the coalition hadn't "seized" Baghdad, yet, even while he was on camera, you could see US tanks in the background...just priceless.
Seriously, this victory declaration is still preventing me from making up my decision to buy either BR or HDDvd.

Actually, now Bagdad Bob sounds more like HD DVD.
- Wait for Chinese Players - 51gb Discs "might" be possible - Studio neutrality is inevitable - amazon charts now mean nothing - Dolby + soundtracks are good enough Blu-ray has - BD-J 1.1 interactivity coming in June. - buy our stupidly expensive movies ... and that's really all I can think of. They pretty much came through with most of the other stuff that would've made the list last year. |
