With all the promos etc there are advantages in being a "new" customer. How long do you have to wait until Shaw considers you a 'new' customer?

If you are a current customer and you cancel a service you have 6 months until you are considered a new customer once again for that service.

Is there a method to use your spouse as a way to get around that rule?

Probably only if you moved. If you stayed in the same location, you'd probably be out of luck, unless you used some devious tactics.

I have moved and then used my wifes name for the new acct. Once we moved and waiting in the mail was a letter to "current occupant" offering free a dct, modem and 6 months total home bundle. I guess the previous occupant never had cable. Worked out great for us though!!!

If you're a current customer you're not out of luck. Promotion 14 for discounted cable is applicable to anyone who gets our mailout. Of course, this one's a bit tricky since the only CSR's who know it's applicable to anyone and everyone are the ones who are literate and read the weekly updates sent to us. But, if you get any flak tell the CSR to read their tailgate or, better yet, tell them to get a second opinion from their sup.
For internet, that's trickier. You can either wait 60 days...otherwise 57 is right. You have to be devious. ie. you cancel your internet and have your wife or relative sign with a secondary account. It sucks, but hey, all companies giving out free stuff are in the same quagmire. |

What is promotion 14? What is the discount?

sales type 14 is hard at times.. sometimes they request a copy of the mail out, to verify that it was in fact sent to you.

I discontinued my Shaw SOHO package (includes basic cable) back in Sept/Oct 2006 and the free 3 months they tried to hook me with on (TEB). It was a waste of my $$ (no longer needed the SOHO).
At the same time I had an offer to get the internet from MTS for $19.95/mth for 12 mths (no contract) and I have EVu (since 1998) for TV so after being a beta tester for SOHO since they first started testing and getting no loyalty offer, I said bye-bye. Was curious because I have seen a few nice promos which include the DCT for free or the non-pvr HD box for $100 and that makes it interesting...I would need a min of two HD DCTs. Vis |

We already have digital cable, but didn't have their high speed service. I complained enough for them to provide me a free modem, extra DCT, and the 6 months of Total Home Bundle by saying that Sasktel Max was a better deal. I guess the consumer always wins

Sorry, Magnet. Just found this thread again. Sales type 14 is the promotion mailed out to customers who Shaw determines hasn't had cable in a while. It provides free connection, 1 free month of cable (for now) and 6 months of basic at $9.95 or full cable at $19.95.
And yeah. Sometimes you'll get a CSR who'll be a pain and ask for physical proof. But times are slowing down and CSR commissions start to trickle in...so they may be more tempted to take the sale rather than hassle you. |
