Question Atlantic Canada - BEV or Rogers?

I hope i'm posting this in the right spot.

I am currently living in Ottawa and have Rogers 8300HD PVR box which i enjoy. I'm moving to NB this summer, probably permanently. As far as i gather, the Rogers PVR down there (Motorola DC????) is rather bad when compared to the one we have here (we have dual tuner, better guide, etc.).

My question is, how good is BEV vs Rogers out east? Any info on the hardware, channel offerings and quality is much appreciated.

And if any smart asses out there are gonna reply with "read this thread" or similar, i looked and we both know there's alot of info on this site

Cheers and enjoy the Super Bowl!

I have the BEV 9200 PVR and a friend of mine 'had'(returned it last fall) a Rogers PVR. We compared and BEV has more features. Check their 1-800 number and ask them if it's the same as the one you have (they have a Rogers call centre in Moncton).

As to service and others, I don't believe one is significantly better than the other. You just have to compare (this is the best way to get a good deal, use one's offer to sign up against the other)

Good luck and welcome to the Maritimes (It's minus 15 and minus 20 with the winchill, warmest it's been all day!)

If the discussion starts and ends at an HD PVR, Bell clearly has the advantage in New Brunswick over Rogers Motorola HD PVR. Rogers has been promising to update this unit to two tuners for some time; Bell's 9200, at the moment, is superior.

But there is more to TV service than a HD PVR. Rogers has a rich, but different, range of HD channels than Bell (mainstream channels like Showcase and National Geographic in HD for example vs Bell's Oasis, Treasure and other High Fidelity niche services).

Rogers also offers a wide, and growing, range of On Demand services which Bell does not, and cannot, offer over satellite.

Depending on your other needs -- Internet and Home Phone (Rogers offers free long distance through NB plus you can call most Rogers Home Phone and Wireless customers in Canada -- about 7 million in total -- without long distance charges). And you can get multi product discounts.

OTOH, Bell ExpressVu may have some attractive new customer offers worth checking out.

I wouldn't have either BEV or Rogers in my house for TV....

I'm happy with StarChoice....free HD & no HD sim-subs

Also, as I'm originally from NB where the OTA FM's are lame

......you will likely enjoy StarChoice's great audio choices....CDN FM's, US FM's, Max Trax & Galaxie

Expensive (699) and possibly worth going third party for a PVR depending how you'd want to work it. The benefit is they always seem to be the most 'risk free' company as theres no contracts to sign, and in terms of upgrading/downgrading program anytime you like.

Generally speaking, Rogers is a better route right now. Even in the face of no dual tuner HD-PVR.

Like *C, Rogers does not simsub its HD channels. It also maintains fairly good bundle pricing so if you are looking at Bell or Rogers for a "total package", I would go Rogers.

I have had the total package for some time and have been very happy with everything but the PVR situation. But if you read around the Rogers NB forum, you will see that we have unencrypted and stable firewire capabilities with the Motorola hardware and people like me have taken full advantage of it and built our own PVRs with better guides and scheduling than Rogers even offers in Ontario (IMHO). Neither *C or BEV have active firewire ports.

The one swing vote is that MS just recently announced that it was working closely with Dish and DirecTV in order to create a Satellite tuner card that can be bought aftermarket (CableCard, OTOH, is locked down tighter than can be and is not to be available for aftermarket purchase) and installed in a MCE machine. This would be a big thing if BEV also allowed the use of the finished product with their service. It would sure as can be make me think real hard!
